Budget for this build was $2000. Money well spent in every area if you ask me.
$675 VE head with SR16 cams
$80 head gasket
$100 head studs
$100 machine work
$Free Pistons! Thank you GREG V!
$80 VE oil pump
$50 VE pulley
$350 Supertech Springs/retainers
$120 JWT reflash with no limiter
$300 for misc parts/fluids/clamps/gas etc
Got the beast running today.
Idles perfectly with about 15inhg vacuum, a little low, but the idle is lower too. Only 800rpm instead of 1200. Oil pressure was 70psi at startup on 10w30. After fully warm was 25-30 at idle, and quickly raises to over 50psi with any blip of throttle.
Filled her up with 99c oil I got at Autozone. Gonna flush the motor after 1hr runtime. Then 100 miles for break-in. No leaks. Boost is set at 10psi for now, but she spins through 2nd when the VVL hits, so I know it is making at least 300whp. It needs a lot more revs.
I couldn't time the engine because the crank pulley is no good. The timing marks have slipped and it reads that the engine is off by about 30*. But it starts right up with zero issues, so I am 100% sure it is the pulley.
This is how a pulley should look, the timing marks are to the right side of the bolt-holes and keyway, on my VE pulley though, the marks are to the far left of the keyway.
Though the timing hasn't been set yet, the bottom end does feel weaker in comparison to the SR20 cams, and lacking a ton on the VET cams. There may be more bottom end to be had though because of the said timing issue.
Ready to terrorize the streets once again.
Thanks for reading guys. I will have dyno results up after break-in.
