Well for comparison, when I had the log mani and open .63 housing I made 400whp on 18psi. With VET cams.

I am hoping to make more than 420whp on the SR16 cams, considering more revs, more boost, and better setup. 248* cams vs 280* is a pretty big jump. Also, the log mani to tubular should make a big difference on a motor that can respond to the better flow.

Took the head to the machine shop to get resurfaced. Found that cyl 1 and 3 were not pulling any vacuum at all. We decided to check for bent valves, but it seems there was just a bit of rust on the valve seats. Cleaned them up and got them sealing again. There is a lot of carbon buildup on the ex valves I am going to clean out with some carb spray.

I am going to pick up the head on monday but am still waiting on pistons.

I got the head ready to go. Cleaned up and got the valves to hold vacuum now. Got all the old carbon out and put through the hot tank. Looks like new.

The new JWT chip came today. No Rev cut and 8.5:1 ignition map. Woot for more timing!

Got my Gspec aluminum wp pulley as well. Work of art. I am running a stock VE pulley instead of an aluminum one. I really wanted to add the balancer for the rpms I'll be running. Perhaps I will get another crank pulley in the future for a small upgrade.

Overall, I got a few hundred bucks left to spend on getting the car going again. New hose clamps, fluids etc. Put some new tires on the rear perhaps. Buy some slicks.

Overall the project is coming along. Just a bit slower than expected though. I have a lot coming out of this thing this season, so hopefully get it all done in May. Get some dyno results up so we can see what she can do.

Pistons have arrived. I will be getting a lot of pics of the coming motor build. Everything will be put back together and dyno'd probably within a month. I just have to get some time off. But I have Wed, Thurs off this week so I will try to put it all together those two days.

I am really excited, the JE pistons are so beefy! Grrrr.

Just a lil teaser for now. As always, keeping you guys updated.

I am having a family bbq so I couldn't work on it all day, but...

I will try to have the car running by next weekend. I don't have many days off that I can actually work on it. Work is kicking my ass.

They do clear the squirters. By a lot lol. There is about 1/4" from the squirters now. The build is coming together nicely. I put in new main bearings, but kept the rod bearings. The rod bearings looked great, hardly any signs of wear. But the crank bearings were not looking good. for 30K miles I expected the rods to look really beat up. But they weren't.

The ACL bearings, though nice, are expensive. I don't really seem to notice any benefit from having them over the Clevites I've used in numerous other builds. In fact, the Clevites seem more durable?
So a set of Clevite mains went in, along with new thrust washers.

The tops of the cylinder bores still show some of those signs of detonation, and couldn't be cleaned up completely. As far as I can tell, all damage is cosmetic and shouldn't affect performance. I guess if I were shooting for over 700whp I would put sleeves in it, but the stock SR seems to be happy making 500whp on stock sleeves.

Although I have the money to buy all the best parts, I would like to see how this build will do on a budget. And after seeing how well the motor ran before with all of the faults it had, I'm willing to see how well the motor will do without being anal retentive about the things that seemed to make no difference. Cheaper bearings, used oil pump, stock crank pulley, re-using the clutch, etc.

...i have bad experience with no rev limiter ...the day will come were even a very high set rev limiter will save your engines live or at least limit the damage...

set it to 8800 or 9000, but just set it.

I blew a det when mishifting from 1 to 2, you easily get to "nightmare"-revs quicker than you can react.

....aah, my hp guess for 20psi is 436hp !!! What do i win when i make the closest guess ? :-)

There will be a limiter, but it is ignition cut now. No fuel cut limiter. It will be set at 8500-8800rpm. Depending on where power starts falling.

The SR16 cams I am hoping will push the powerband further up. The stock VE cams surge really bad, so maybe it will get better with the 1.6 cams. Not sure here, just a shot in the dark. But the 1.6 cams like to rev better and that is where I plan on making most of the hp. 15-16psi I am hoping to hit 400whp at 8000rpm. Considering the new tune, and cams, I believe that is possible. But who knows?

Maybe I get this thing together and it makes the exact same power as before lol. Melted pistons ftw?
