Clocking turbos
Just curious can the intake side of any turbo be clocked or is that feature only on aftermarket turbos. Another question I have is can a internal wastegate be converted over to external wastgate?

Just from my experience with any turbo ( stock or aftermarket ) that I've dealt with are

all clockable. Also you can convert a internal wastegated turbo to a external by obviously

taking the internal wastegate off of it and by welding the inter flapper valve in the

exhaust housing shut. Then mount the turbo to your external wastegated manifold and

run your wanted wastegate.

I'm pretty sure you can. I had a T04, and my current TD04 that both had locator pins inside the housings. I just pulled the pins, and turned it all kinds of ways. Well, as much as the actuator would allow anyway.

Someone DID once tell me though, the pins help keep the larger turbos from torquing to the point that it puts a cross-lateral load on thrust plate or something? Not sure how valid his statement is, but the guy owns his own garage and rebuilds turbos frequently....so who knows?

also you could get a different turbine option so you can change to Ext WG

You can definitely clock the compressor housing. If internal wastegate, you'll need to remove the wastegate bolts, rotate the housing to your preferred location, and then mark the points that you'll have to drill/tap for the wastegate bracket bolts. The holes left behind will need to be filled. Most recommend just some RTV, but I'd prefer something more along the lines of an aluminum filler material that bonds and won't leak. You'd obviously want to apply it with the compressor housing removed though.

External wastegate FTW. They're ALWAYS better than an internal gate, regardless of the turbo. That's your bestest bet

Don't forget to fully tighten the bolts holding it on. I must have had a brain fart when installing mine, and had a huge boost leak. Car was insane after tightening them.
