3rd Gear shearing off??
I've got a major problem guys, I'm runninng a stock T25 set-up and I hardly preassure the car.. My 3rd keeps shearing off and I'm not sure what is causing this.. I've already gone through three trannies, has anyone else had this problem??

Need your help thanks..

3rd gear is infamous for sucking. Try picking up a P11 tranny or maybe fitting a B15 tranny.

I wonder how some of these guys are running like 300+ HP?

I've always wondered if it was possible to put gears out of say, a WRX or EVO into a SR tranny. Or maybe take the guts out of a GTi-R and put them into an SR tranny.

That would be cool if it were possible.

so far ive never had any problems with 3rd gear, im at about the 250-260whp range with just as much torque and when i run the car i quick shift into third barely letting off the gas most of the time, the other times im easy on third gear because i know how weak they are. so far no problems with third at all. now ive cracked two transmission cases one in my last se-r that was 155whp all motor and one on my current. except this one was the top portion. but i will be completely fixing the cracked case problem to where i wont ever have to worry about it again. now its just the third gear that i will have to worry about.

again i know alot of people that have over 300whp and are running b13/14 trannies and have been for a long time and no problems yet. i guess its just the pick of the field and how you treat them. oh well

Does Redline MT90 Heavy Shockproof help at all with preventing 3rd gear shearing?

Also i'm guessing that welding the tranny case helps, which i will be doing at the time i replace my clutch.

Turbine you might need to adjust your driving method a bit. Make sure the clutch is all the way in before shifting into 3rd and make sure the gear is fully engaged before letting it back out and getting on the gas again. My original 1991 3rd gear has been going strong with a t25 setup since 2001.

Thanks for the reponses guys, I'll definately adjust my driving style even though it becomes a bit difficult when the adrenalin kicks in lol but its becoming costly..

Does anybody know if the Redline gear oil helps with this problem?

Godspeed

From what I hear the GTiRs are plagued with the same 3rd gear problem.

P11, or shell out the cash for a PAR gearset.
