If you build a motor and use quality parts as well have an experienced professional assemble the parts you should be able to drive cross country without a problem. However, when you start pushing the car that's when you start to snap axles and break trannies. If you are keeping the car at 8-10psi rebuild a sr20det with fresh bearings, maybe some new pistons and rings depending on the condition of the ones in the motor.
I plan on throwing in some eagle rods, weisco pistons, and some new bearings in my spare motor to see 20psi of boost daily and drive 230 miles to and from orlando and miami without having to worry about it breaking.

bgreen you already know who to talk to. A stock det is all you need just freshen it up and your mint. Run that black motor that came out of the black b13 erick had

I had this turbo for a while and it was awesome, brand new GT28R, (GT2560R) on my stock 1994 lowport motor. I was making about 200whp, 200 ft/lbs. Real simple JWT tuned ECU for 370cc injectors and stock MAFS, all other typical turbo mods. Commuted to work 50 miles each way for years on this setup, not exaggerating. I know people mock JWT tunes but they are hard to beat for reliability....plug and play boss.

Honestly if I did it over again with the same power goals I would get this turbo. Brand new ball bearing GT25 (GT2554R) It will spool instantly. If you are only going for 8-10 PSI you might as well get a turbo that is designed for that power level.

Here is link to my car for some more detail on my old setup...it defined reliable.

What do you mean, a factory DET..like a bluebird motor? My setup was on my stock SR20DE....which I think is what you are referring to as a DE plus T. I am not sure if those turbos I posted will give you the same power levels that I achieved with my DE on a DET motor....because of the obvious
difference in compression. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I think a T28 (maybe cams) is necessary if you want an "sti killer" That way you cover not only stock sti's, but also the ones that do light mods (which most do)

Yea, I kinda lost sight of that. I was posting the details on my setup because of the OP's original request for a rock solid reliable setup for 8-10 PSI. This may not be enough to get the edge on an STI. The hardest obstacle to overcome is the ability to pull hard from dead stop..like if you meet an STI at a stoplight. This is one of the reasons I parted my setup out a while back. I simply got fed up with wheel-hop, wheel-spin, and the inability to put down even modest power with street tires. But that is a different conversation all together. After the STI stomps you on the launch you gotta reel him in fast...which is gonna require more than a simple 8-10 PSI setup.

Get into a RWD or AWD car with modest power and stomp on it from a dead stop. Feel that.....you will never feel that in a FWD nissan chassis (on street tires....on the street)
