Thread: Expensive TIG exhaust welding?

Hey,

I bought a VRS piping kit, two dynomax resonators, and a magnaflow muffler. Got charged over $400 to get this all welded up. That sounded pretty expensive. What do you guys pay for TIG exhaust welding? You think it was high/low? TIG worth it? Didn't really have anything to compare with so I went into it a little blind.

Guess this could be moved to the 'General' section as it's not turbo specific.

Sounds pricey for the simple fact that a VRS exhaust, not even the piping kit, will run just north of $400 for a bolt on affair. Sorry.

so you bought a new vrs pipe kit and then payed a extra 400 to get it welded wow thats a super expensive exhaust

Not even CLOSE to that much. I've had a custom exhaust built for $300 including the material! You've been ripped off, sorry to say.

I did a bit of digging, and it seems most welding shops charge $60-$80/hr.

Most guys that do small work on the side charge around $40/hr.

Welding up your exhaust should have taken no more than two to three hours TOPS, that's if there's cutting involved, etc.

Since you bought a piping kit with everything just needing welding, it shouldn't have cost you over $250 TOPS.

This is unbelievable. If you didn't like our pricing, you should have just told us. Why bash?

I never bashed your shop. I never said where I was getting it welded.

I just wanted to know what other people were paying.

The hell? You guys bothered to track this guy down to our little forum to defend yourself when he was not even attacking your shop in any way, shape or form.

He never even mentioned a shop period. You must have a guilty conscience.
