Thread: BIG BOOST Mid Sized Turbo guys what are your numbers?

not saying it wont be a good setup but seriously like it was said you can only flow soo much power through a T2 turbo. If you want big power why risk it trying to push a T2 when you can get a T3 and make the same power on less boost and have less chance of messing the motor up. I had my fun messing with small turbos and trying to push them to the limits and again it wasnt fun on the pocket book replacing engines. Tunes were good it was just the fact they were pushed.

I know a guy that was running his 2871 at almost 28psi and having a hell of a time making power, from detonation issues, spark blowout on the stock ignition, to other things the backpressure produced in a T2 turbo when pushed that high is rediculous.

He was amazed that im still running a stock ignition on mine with no spark blowout problems. He had his plug gap all the way down to .18 and it would still blow out spark when pushed above 23psi on that turbo.

Its all in the sizing. I learned this after going through motor after motor trying to push the smaller turbos really high. Thats why i went with a T3 setup and soo far absolutely no problems with the motor at all and i know im making insane crazy power, no doubt about it and doing it safely without pushing my turbo or setup to the limits or over pushing them which was the case with the smaller turbos. I love it and will never go back to the smaller turbos. The pull up top in the powerband is absolutely insane in comparison to any T2 turbo. Pulling harder and harder from 5k-8k without falling a bit is exactly what i wanted and got from it.

Guys your opinions and arguments on this are kinda pointless. 420whp isnt big hp to me. The setup will hit that 400whp mark or close to it at 20psi. My turbo will still be efficient, and ill have the response that you guys with big turbos can only dream of. A fun ass street monster and a track terror but with enough down low not to be annoying to drive on the street..

Yeah your arguments are good and have a point. But 400+ whp in responsive ass Fwd car is PLENTY for me and alot of guys running T2 turbos. Which is why we run them.

Also Ashton you were doing something different then I was though. I never blew up any motors. My DET has seen 20psi from my T25 and from my greddy and it runs great. Never blown up, no spark blow outs unless my gap was wrong, no detonation. I always kept my tank 2 gallons full of 100oct unleaded plus 93oct. No probs. Matter fact When we were pushing our t25's to 18-20lbs (when that thread came out about the maxxed out t25 whp back in the day), I pushed mine hard EVERYDAY even in 90deg weather and have never blown my motor. I think you just had your tunes wrong or something...

not to mention yours is a det motor with oil squirters. That helps alot getting rid of heat soak on the tops of the pistons. All my motors were de motors. The tunes were good man, conservative timing, good a/f ratio, no other thing too it other than it was over pushed causing heat buildup in the cylinders.

Anyways if your just shooting for 400whp i dont see anything wrong with the turbo your running. Like you said it will be responsive as hell and make for a good street car. Again it is pushing it but not too bad. Good luck with the setup man and wish you the best with it.

On the a proper set up you can achieve your goals. Its been done rather easily, I might add.

I have had my share of small turbo de tragedy's,
went t3 50trim ve could not have been anymore satisfied making power easier, power doesn't fall off for me, tuning is easier, not to mention smaller turbo's produce allot more heat, back pressure

why do you say that ? Their are different trim greddy 18g depending on engine and supporting mods i think it is possible my cousin on this forum has an 18g made 280 to the wheels stock rr on 8lbs spiking to 10 ?

I changed my mind. The average person won't make 400whp on 20 psi of boost out of a 18g. But IF the OP does it right its not a problem. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Have you used an 18g on these cars or something? 385-400whp is my prediction. Well see though when I get it on the dyno one its warmer.

Anyway where are the T2 dudes at?

I say this because most people with 3076's struggle to break 400whp on less than 20psi.

You are trying to do it on whats equivalent to a 3071.
