the 0w30 castrol is just fine. The analysis shows it just barely under the limit for a 40wt oil. It is amazing. But if you want thicker, get the rotella 5w40. It is just a hair heavier, and guys use that stuff in diesels running over 1000hp.

From reading about the K series in my EP3 they seem to suck M1 and RP through the pcv which is I think the same as my VE did with RP and you experienced with M1 (you've got a VE oil pump yes?).

The engines are designed to do this and so I don't think your oil consumption with M1 has to do with your rings. This is where oil science gets complicated and my eyes roll back in my head.

For a long time I thought the consumption was a sign of poor quality oil. This may not be the case always as it has to do with atomization from high pressure oil pumps (ala VE/K series).

Long story short I'm back to square one on oil choice but still prefer GC.

Changed to GC and it's minty.

I can get RP for about $5/qt., where i have to pony up $7/qt. for GC.....

I have the same experience with Royal Purple.

Other than the high oil consumption, the engine seems to like it.

People will tell you that only fools run 0-30 on a turbo but IMO it gives good startups in the winter and GC acts more like a 40 weight when hot according to my BITOG research.

The thing is even with UOAs and good research you still don't know for sure. Even though you aren't consuming oil it doesn't mean the engine is properly lubricated at 6krpm and full boost or at startup fwiw.

Couldn't agree with you more. You have to "know" what's going on just by listening, IMO. That's how I know that I'm not satisfied with Valvoline. Chatter is just a bit less apparent than with M1. I'm amped to try GC, and see how well it performs for my particular application.

I don't understand some people's logic on running a 0w30 on a turbo car. You don't necessarily need a 10 weight in the winter months. As a matter of fact, the head sounds like it's going to fall off first thing in the morning with 10w30 on cold start. I don't like it. If I can lower the weight on cold start to aid in lubrication of critical components, I'm all over it. It'll also help me determine if the piston slap is worse than before, or not

I rock the 5 quart Platinum jug for 20 bucks and OEM filter. Its been great so far. My idle oil pressure has stayed constant from new till about 4K miles I hit 2 days ago on the same oil change. Plus every 4th oil change is freeish..

My experience with RP is that it broke down as easily as M1 did. By broke down, I don't mean that the oil actually changed chemical make-up. It was still oil, but not the viscosity that it was when poured new. When draining the pans, it came out like water. I was shocked.

Everyone I know says that RP sucks on the track. When oil pressure gets under 20psi at idle after a few laps on a 10w40, you know something aint right.
