Thread: types of gear oil

I would say go MT90. The synchromesh is kinda thin. good for your cold weather, but when it gets hot it won't cushion as well.

I have just switched it up a bit, and I love it so far.

Now, I run 2qts of MT90, followed by 1.5qts of Shockproof heavy. When cold in the morning, no notchy shifting, no stack issues, no nothing. I can start the car at 40 degrees, let the clutch out, and the car doesn't try and stall anymore. With 100% shockproof and the same conditions above, releasing the clutch pedal would shut the car off if you didn't release it slowly. Shockproof is HEAVY stuff in cold!!!!

same here never broken a nissan tranny with shock proof heavy.

Im running redline mt-90 love the stuff so far.

I use whatever gear oil I have laying around the shop since mine leaks a little. Sometimes its some ghetto brand 75/90 other times 80/90 maybe some 140w for good measure lol. I think power shifting into third and having bad motor mounts is more to blame for failures.

That and spinning the tires on crappy uneven roads.
