Ashton, I read about the valvoline and mobil 1 you are referring and I think they are GL-5, I thought those weren't good for our trannies because of the sulfur and how it eats the brass synchros..?

I may try MT90 next. The synchromesh is way too thin. I need something thicker. But I was an unlucky one with the heavy shockproof. About 450whp and I grenaded 2nd gear in my P11 trans while running that stuff. Right at the top of 2nd gear it let loose

But she's fixed now.

THAT'S the kind of information I've been looking for. It seems the concensus (sp?) is that Shockproof heavy should NOT be used solo with our gearstacks. It makes perfect sense because shockproof heavy is actually a differential lubricant, and not really a transmission lubricant. I will be yanking it out in the near future and replacing it with 3 parts MT90 to one part SPH.

I got 1 quart SP Heavy and 3 quart MT-90 to go in the tranny during my DET swap. We'll see how it goes.

Good call. I use one bottle of shockproof heavy, 150ml of Morey's heavy duty oil stabiliser and the rest is castrol 75W90 GL4. Seems to have worked so far... I haven't blown up my GTiR gearbox yet!

royal purple! motor & tranny.. allday everyday..3yrs/3sr's strip/street/track no issues..and all three still going strong!..many say" its not the car its the driver"lol!

I have been running redline heavy shockproof (pepto bizmole style) for about 12 years now and I have never killed a transmission. I am thinking this is a very popular gear oil among big power guys.

Sorry to hijack the thread but...
I'm debating between Pennzoil synchromesh and MT-90 for my bone stock 99 Se-l w/ 137k. I could get 4 bottles of redline MT-90 for about 40 dollars from a dealer around me or go to advance and get the Pennzoil for 20. Is mt-90 worth the extra price? I need to change my gear oil, shifts when cold are very notchy.
