I tried swapping to some lucas to mabe quiet the grind but no go, although that stuff was thick as could be. Car was making around 370 with that. Seems like Redline is the way to go by the thread either the heavy or the mt90.

Odd since it's safe for yellow metals. It says it right on the bottle. The syncromesh is highly recomended on 240 and mitsu boards. Both of which have yellow metals. Seems to not be so popular with the FWD SR crowd.

Napa sta lube is a great cheap gl4 fluid. It's over the counter at most napa's. It's a bit thicker but works just fine above 40*. I loved the way it made my shifts feel.

I'm going amsoil MTG next time I need to change fluid. I have never heard of or seen any bad reviews about any amsoil products.

Although this Valvoline 85W140 is shifting pretty nice too when it warms up. Butter with no grinding.

Which would you say is better the valvoline 85w140 or the mobil 1 75w90, I got a autozone gift card for christmas left over and figured I would just grab one of those 2 for gear oil until I can get some redline heavy shockproof. Were you using the valvoline in the white bottle or the durablend in the blue bottle?

I voted mt90 because redline shock proof lightweight isnt listed. I have been using it for quite a few years now with no problems.

From what I've read about that fluid I wouldn't recommend it for anything but N/A racing cars looking for every last bit of power who can live with lowered transmission life. =(
Have you read it's description on Redline's website and compared it to the other common Redline fluid descriptions?

This is a great thread:

And here's my break-down of the Redline offerings including the lightweight and super lightweight shockproof stuff.

This is the only thing that worries me about the redline heavy shockproof is what the listed on the site about it

Red Line Synthetic Oil - ShockProof® Gear Oils - Heavy ShockProof®

IT says" Not recommended for most synchro applications due to the product's extreme slipperiness"

Yeah i look at how many people have broken their trans with Redline shockproof and it makes me turn away some.

Thats why i stated for people with moderate turbo hp, and n/a use i dont think you can beat the Mobil1, ive had nothing but good luck and experience with it as well as all my buddies that have used it. Every single time i can count that we tried something else, something always broke or went wrong.

Now if you need the extra cusion in higher hp applications i would almost say dont use a synthetic gear oil and just use a heavy weight regular gear oil. Again so far with the 85w-140 Valvoline its been awesome. Shifts are super nice when warmed up, No trans noise at all. That normal gear and bearing noise you get when in idle with the clutch not pressed is not present at all. No whine or noise while cruising at any speed, and it definetly should provide the extra cusion to keep metal to metal contact and slamming of the teeth from happening.

Ill see how it goes with this Valvoline oil in there and all i can say if it keeps the trans alive longer than normal then im all for it.

Ashton did you try using Syncromesh before? I have 4 bottles of it, and I don't think I can return it anymore. I'm starting to lean towards Valvoline or Mobile 1 now...

Yes, the last tras i shattered 3rd and 4th on i was using syncromesh, When i drained it, it was like water coming out, I was just thinking there is no way this is protecting the teeth at all from during accleration and gear shifts and initial lockup.

My buddy was using it in his B15 trans and the syncros started going out and the syncronizer hub started wearing and the trans eventually kept popping out of third and got worse to the point it wouldnt stay in even if he held it in.

He is going back to Mobil1 75w90. Never had a problem ever using that. For my t25 and t28 setups in the past i always used Mobil1 and never broke 1 trans that was gear related.

I really havent had a problem with it in my car over the past 3-4 years i have been running it. I dont drive my car alot but when i do its usually abused and tracked often. From what most people say i should be running mt90, but so far i like the light weight shockproof, and dont really see a reason to switch. I have run off the shelf valvoline stuff which was complte garbage in my opinion. I have the penzoil gl4 stuff in my g20 right now which seems to be doing well.

When i change the cv shafts on my maxima i will be using the mt90 which is what most recomend for the 50 series gearbox. If i like it in my maxima i may change the nx over to it.
