question for turbo guys with b15 M/T
those of you that chose to run the B15 LSD instead of the P11 for whatever reasons, do you have any regrets not getting the P11 LSD? thoughts, views, experience welcome...

I think from what I've seen (I don't own either, yet) is that people with decent turbo setups on B15 trannies complain about the gearing being too short.

I am looking at a p11 tranny now and the only reason that I want that over a b15 is the gear ratio. The b15 tranny has shorter gears with lead to higer rpm cruising speeds. I can make a b15 tranny into a p11 cheaper than I can actually buy a used p11 tranny for.

i was just going to recommend that to you, find the 1.8 B15 trans, swap the gears, and swap the final drive ring gear to a b13/b14 one and your golden, exact p11 trans.

Yeah p11 trans still go for rediculous amounts.

oh and hell i complain about the b15 trans being too short on an n/a ve motor. hahaha. I hate the fact that at 8k in 2nd gear im just barely at 60mph, while as when i had my ve in there with stock b13 trans, at 8k im at like 72mph, Not to mention it felt way faster with the longer gears. Same goes in 3rd, B15 trans @8k in 3rd is like 89mph, B13 trans is at like 105mph.

I like the longer gearing even when i was n/a.

nice info bro, ima try that since I think I might hit some numbers the B13 tranny wont hold for long specially 3rd gear

funny thing is ive never broken a trans at the track running on slicks. The slicks really help cusion the shock of quick gear changes. Hopefully this stays the same with the twin disk im running, so far 2 trannies down with the twin disk because of broken gears on hard shifts.

But street tires provide bascily 0 give unless they break loose but even to break loose still puts that initial shock on the gears.

Im hoping slicks mixed with the valvoline 85W-140 gear oil im using in the trans will help protect the teeth from just shattering. The gear oil right off the bat i could tell made a huge difference. Soo much smoother when shifting, no tranny noise at all when driving. So far im liking my chances of it holding up for at least the one pass ill get before getting the boot.

I haven't noticed much difference between the two. 1st and 2nd go quick on any sr trans in my opinion.

Ashton- Are you saying the valvoline is better then Redline SP??

no, im not, I used the valvoline because thats what the store had for the time being, i have to order the redline heavy shockproof. Nobody in town carries it at all. I might switch it out to the redline sp but not sure yet. So far so good.

the redline shockproof is equivalent to a 250w gear oil with some characteristics found in your normal 75w-90 synthetics. So the SP is definetly thicker and provides more cusion than the 85w-140 im using now. But either way its better than the penzoil syncromesh i had in the last trans. That provided no cusion at all. Period. It was like water coming out of the trans.

Redline is some nasty stuff, im a believer after seeing how long my b13 trans lasted. If its cold outside make sure you heat those bottles up cause you will be pouring all day long.
