I thought this company went out of business, but I guess it came back or something. These things are pretty cool, so I thought I would share what I came across. Check it out ceramic, ball bearing, Variable Vane Turbine, and they don't need oil lines run to them. So they can be mounted in ANY position

Downsides are they are I think pneumatic and there aren't that many turbos and of course the price

Pretty badass, I must say. Yes they are high dollar but think about the money you spend on the wastegate, finding fittings and lines for the oil and possibly coolant to your turbo. In the end it would be about like buying a brand new turbo with your other goodies...except you don't need the other goodies.

and personally i like the other pontiac at the beginning of the video that pulled the wheels.

Yeah that is a definite plus. That and the fact that they make more power through the power band, and are always changing AR so the EGTs stay down with out all the back pressure building.

I started reading the problems some guys that have them on smaller bike motors are having... They are in boost just past idle, and it is "explosive power" They have to detune the turbo because of it. It is crazy,they are making power at the top end too.

These are defiantly the turbo of the near future. The word is Garret will be competing with their own VTNs again. This means our b15 trans popping like old b13 trans

So wastegates and oil lines are the past now?

The sealed oiling system is pretty much patented to the one company. Garret VNTs were (80s) were still plumbed with engine oil.

But wastegates are just wasting energy as far as the VATN turbo goes. VATN use what would be otherwise wasted the exhaust and energy. The wastegate on conventional turbos is constantly dumping exhaust to control turbine speeds. The VATN just opens up it's fins when it starts spinning too fast.

So hopefully this style of turbo takes off and makes WGs and oil lines a thing of the past. The first company Areodyne, didn't take off well enough or something. The designer re issued the patent to some new company so they can give these awesome turbos a second round

I think Newer cummins diesel in dodges use the variable vane technology on their turboes.

Yes they do The Powerstroke uses them and there is some Porsche that uses them too.(there used to a lot of semi trucks that had them and some cool 80s shelbys) The ones on the diesel trucks aren't so hot for people that want to increase boost. They have electronic controllers that have a little motor, instead of the pneumatic setup the Areochargers have. So went the diesel guys want to up the boost they cant control the electronic controllers that adjust the VATN's fins so they ditch them and run conventional turbos that they know how to up the boost with (which is kind of a shame.)

i believe some of the new vw's and the turbo acura suv uses it also.

Cool I hadn't heard about Honda getting into them, pretty cool. I know there are tons of cars in other countries getting them too mostly Borg Warner ones. I guess there is a Nissan Patrol that has them as an option. Hopefully they will start putting them in non diesels soon.
