GT28 Series Water Line Questions..Need Advice!
Hello All,

I was talking to Vadim a little bit and got into a discussion of water lines. It seems the stock water lines could be used(are they M14x1.5mm?), but they are a PitA to install. So, I've been looking into alternatives.

The motor that's going to be installed is an SR20DET, so I'm not doing DE+T.

What are some good alternatives to the stock lines? Did you build your own or use a kit? I've been looking over everything and am kinda confused (as usual).

For example. Why do all the water kits (GFD+CS) come w/only 2 fittings? Isn't there a return and feed for water? Shouldn't it come w/4 fittings(2 for return 2 for feed)? I must be missing something here.

Thanks!

What am I missing here? The two banjo bolts go on the turbo and then the coolant feed/return locations on the DET block just bolt up to the braided end of the line?

what are you running? there are a few ways of hooking up oil and water. Is this a det or a de-t? I usually use hose barb fittings for the water in and return.

Just go to summit and order the fittings yourself. You need
6 feet of -6 AN line
1/4NPT to 6An adapters (3). The fittings in the turbo and the block are 1/4 npt
two 45 degree 6AN fittings- for fittings off the turbo
and one 90 degree 6AN fitting which goes into the block for coolant feed.

The return line just goes to the nipple on the coolant hard pipes.

m14 x 1.5 = the same as 1/4NPT?

M14 x 1.5 is what's listed as the water connection in the flange dimension guide on my turbo.

DET W10 for a GT2871R

I pretty much got the oil feed/return figured out. I just need to figure out what to do w/the water lines. I have all the stock water lines from the T25 that came w/the engine but supposedly they are a bitch to run and I'm not even sure if they'll work w/the GT2871

All I know is that I know for a fact that they are 1/4npt. It was for my friends GTIR and my GT28. Im guessing they are the same...weird.

gomba, do you want to use the factory DET locations on the engine for feed and return or are you open to different ideas?

The connections to the DET block are probably the same, but the turbo fittings may be different I'm assuming? So on the GTIR block the size was 1/4NPT?

I'd be open to other ideas, but would want to know the pros/cons of changing the location. If it makes it easier/better I'm all for it! but I'm thinking if the block already has a feed/drain location might as well use those?

no i meant just on the turbo itself. the sr blocks al.lhave the same size feed fitting in the block which is right under the number 2 exhuast port IIRC.
