Battery Relocation? Best Options?
Hey,

So I'm considering relocating my battery to the trunk to make some more room up front for piping/routing. I know there's some threads on battery relocation, but I'm wanting a fresh look. I've seen Summit Racing kits to totally custom ones. What do you guys think is the best option for a good, but not cheap solution? Also, where is a good place to buy the fuse and breaker? Any advice or issues people run into w/battery relocation?

Advice?
Do it yourself.

Get power cable (black) from a car audio place like Parts-Express.com or similar. eBay can also have great deals on bulk wire. Go with 4 gauge at least, many people will say 2 gauge (more expensive and harder to find terminals for) or 0/1 gauge (more expensive but easy to find terminals for).

You will need about 2 feet for the ground wire and about 12 feet for the power wire (but buying extra is advised).

Get a dry cell battery and don't bother with a battery box. Move the stock battery tray to the trunk and mount with that.
No need for relays or fuses.

Get two battery terminals, a ground terminal, and some sort of connector for up in the engine bay. You will have the thick (4 gauge?) starter wire and two (10 gauge?) white wires to connect up front in the engine bay. Keep that in mind when you consider your method of connection up front. You can do a simple butt connector or go fancy with a distribution block. Time to be creative.
Don't forget a grommet for the firewall if you plan on going through it.

That's basically how I did mine (except mine was way more complicated with amplifiers, capacitor, external cut-off switch, relay to disconnect the alternator and whatnot).


There are many other ways to do it, but that's how I did it and that's how I'd do it again. I'm sure others will have other advise and experiences for you. Happy relocating! =]

Good advice, the only thing I can't do is use my existing battery tray because the pillars that hold the battery in place are broken/gone ;/

I would put a fuse or breaker back by the battery. Its just a safety precaution. If you get into a wreck or something, you dont want the battery cable just grounding out to the body. It would probably cause the battery to melt down or explode. Go to walmart or autozone and get a cheap boat battery box. You will be better off with the battery in a box protected from anything in your trunk.

Ya, this will be my DD, so I want it to be as safe/reliable/usable/etc as possible.

Go to your favorite Stereo Equipment Shop... buy 12' of red 0 or 2 ga. like like 8 gold plated crimp o rings to fit... Get yourself about 6' of black 0 or 2 ga. for ground and go to town. In my personal opinion buy a nice tie down or box and walaa. Ground the crap out of everything and ifu can add in a good distribution block and another power wire to your starter if necessary and you are golden. Also purchase two 100amp circuit breakers and place one under the hood and one close the battery location... Custom is the way to go and it will look fresh.

I run the power wire to the starter directly, then a power wire from there to a distribution block on the driver side. The distribution block has each of the main fuse block white power wires running off it. this is what I have found to be the cleanest way to do it. I always use 1/0 welder's cable on mine to a battery box in the trunk.

im not a big fan of puttin the battery in the trunk, ever thought about a small odyysey battery and mountin it on the frame rail ?
