or just find a good ve block. Not hard to find for about $100 or so. But yeah it wont be cheap to drill and tap the block for the squirters. Again i dont think its the biggest deal to not have them, hell alot of people run high hp without them but if you have a block available why not use it.

the issue with drilling the block is you have to be dead on or you miss the oil passage. I agree just get a ve block or better yet a whole ve motor and use the de bottom end.

An oil cooler doesn't achieve the same result as oil squirters. Putting in oil squirters is not difficult. You can take the block to any machine shop and they can do it. You can also do it in the comfort of your own home.

You will not catch me dead plugging oil squirter holes. I enjoy the idea of keeping my pistons as cool as possible to prevent detonation.

Machining the main journals for extra oiling and going with the appropriate bearings with extra oiling holes goes a very long way in providing extra oiling to your bearings.

It was also brought up, you can modify the factory oil pumps for more pressure, which is common practice.

Personally, I won't bother with a VE oil pump. External 3 stage pump for me in the not too distant future.

^I'm just going to go with my DE block, VE oil pump, and CP pistons. I'll have a other things on the build to help with temps.

^^^ for a budget build though. If you build a motor then the price of a VE pump isn't gonna kill you. Especially considering that you "should" be using a new oil pump for a motor build anyways.

(Just another heads up for those who didn't see it, but there's a thread about the correct spacers to use when running a VE pump on a de/det. Very important. Just putting it out there)


Yea I just shim the de oil pumps. I think I have one laying around if you want it Cliff.

Thanks Mad Scientist, but I have a VE pump on the DET This topic was more just for starting conversation, "thinking outside the box" if you will. I was bored at work and it just popped into my head so I figured I'd get others thinking

I have been running a de+t for over about 2 yrs now on 18lbs of boost t-25 and I beat the **** out of the car every time I drive it because I have a dd to drive if it breaks. I have not had a problem with any bearings or anything just those damn head gaskets. I've blown like 4 those ****ers really don't like me. Even the cometic 3 layer...

more than likely caused by detonation on the headgaskets, been there done that. Notice any pitting on the top of the block near the edges of the cylinder wall or on the head near the firing ring sealing surface?

18psi on a t25 will do that.

tekkie i run my de+t hard everytime i drive it. in the last 4 years i havent had a single problem with this motor.

there good to have if you have them, but if you dont i wouldnt worry about it. plugging them should create high oil pressure and provide more oiling to the other parts.
