Setup Advice
OK i have been thinking of which would be a better setup for me and make the most power.

VE-T

Stock T28
444cc Injectors
Not sure of the MAF
Calum ECU
N1 cams

DET
Stock T28
444cc Injectors
Not sure of the MAF
Calum ECU
S4 cams

Both setups with have a 3" dp. Also i am not sure if Calum RT or Basic will make more power.

Thanks for the help.

Both setups are heavily injector limited to maybe 280 WHP at 3-bar or 320 at 4-bar. See the injector size versus power output thread for real numbers.

Calum Basic and RT have the exact same performance potential. The RT just makes things much faster when tuning.

As for the better setup, personally I like the DET setup a bit more, because the components are a better match. The T28 has much too small of an exhaust side for me to feel okay mating it to a VE head. If there's no chance you'll ever upgrade, do the DET. If you plan on upgrading in the future I'd recommend the VE.

Thanks Ben. I want to maybe DD close to 300whp. Maybe i in over my head with that. So the Basic with a SAFC 2 would be any better for tuning than the RT?

Sorry i never got into the hole RT tuning thing, so i am a noob at it. I do not want to go bigger than a T28 just because of money issues. I just thought because of the VE and the VVL switches i could make more power at higher RPMs.

You'll make more power from the VE because the VE head flows better. I think the S4 cams are more aggressive than the N1 cam big lobes (not entirely sure) but not enough to matter, and the VE head tips things in it's favor for HP. VVL does absolutely nothing for power except let you run a more aggressive cam while keeping the low-end livable.

As for the Calum Basic + SAFC2... I hate seeing that combination. You're absolutely 100% better of with just a Calum RT and a laptop.

As it is, the T28 with your proposed cam profiles will be running out of breath well before redline unless you run 7-10 psi only. You'll still get your 300 WHP goal with those pressures, probably higher. You just won't make the torque everyone else makes (a good thing if you ask me).

You're HP is limited to around 320whp with those injectors. I've maxed out 370cc's @ 4-bar at like 298whp. The 444's are good for slightly more. Maybe 310, i can't remember.

I would run the VE-T with stock cams. Same yourself some money. N1's are too aggressive with that small turbo IMO. You are only gonna make 320whp max from that turbo anyway. Atleast when you upgrade you have a nice flowing cylinder head with VVL.

Here is my dyno, pretty much identical to your DET setup option. Only difference is i was using a JWT ECU rather than a Calum ECU. Also note that this is UNCORRECTED HP, subtract around 20whp and that's the SAE dyno:

This was at 20psi. It starts to break up up top, because that turbo is just too small and i believe it was starting to detonate at that boost level.

Honestly I'd recommend a DE+T. It sounds like you're going for a similar setup to mine only with the S4 cam. If I were you I'd duplicate my setup with the 520cc Scooby injectors and whatnot. Price of motor will be cheap and you'll benefit from the higher compression.

Thanks Ben for your knowledge

Thanks. So sticking with stock cams on the VE is going to better me, for my goal?
