Thread: Twin Disk Clutches?

All this ACT talk got me thinking about my NX9-XTG6 clutch kit I picked up a while back. I hope it holds .

i got a cm twin disck clutch on my car at the moment and the few minutes ive driving it feels like any normal 6puck clutch but its Bitch to drive it on the streets since it grabs hard lol

See that's what I don't want. Don't get me wrong I am not asking for a OEM style feel. I am more than use to harsh engagements. My car will be a street car that I intend on driving around but, I also plan on slapping some tires on the car and hitting up the track. So I want somthing that is drivable and somthing that will hold whatever I throw at it. That's why I am considering a twin disk.

I also heard they come in a SD and HD rating.

If my clutch fails it will be my next purchase ...I have a Clutch net 4 puck sprung hub , it is the same as the one on Mulemans old GT35R beast , so I hope it holds at least for a while

i have switched from my ACT extreme w/ 6 puck to a Competition twin disk, which is basicly identical to the CM FX700, Its rated for well over 800hp. Ive driven twin disk clutches before. They do grab very hard but if your good with your feet its still not that hard to drive on the streets. The car will remain my daily driver as well and like Rican i want something that will hold up to a nice 2nd gear burnout on the 24.5X9 slicks, do the passes without slipping and then put my street tires right back on and take it for a drive without problems.

So far ive just gone over what the ACT can handle and the last time out it was slipping and the time out before that i attempted a 2nd gear burnout and when i went to launch i went nowhere. So i knew it was time for an upgrade. My big end of the track is where i definetly dont want to lose any time from a slipping clutch being i spun the slicks until almost the 1/8 mile. Ill keep you guys updated on how the clutch feels when i get it in.

I also converted my car to hydraulic as well so that should help with pedal feel as well.

I've been running the CM FX700 setup for sometime now.No problems so far.
30psi no problem.....Pedal feels like stock.If you take it easy of the line it's not that bad.

Well apparently my distributor no longer carries twin disc setups for FWD SR's.

Something else I found interesting while talking with him last night: A majority of the clutch manufacturers all obtain core parts from Exedy Apparently, clutchmasters, competition, and a few other companies out there are rebadging Exedy kits? This was from my distributor's mouth, who happens to be unbiased (he carries all brands). He said that ACT is done in house, as well as another brand.
