We have done this many times. We have tuned some turbo cars using the stock DE ECU. Keep in mind that with the S-AFC you can program it to use different MAFs and what not. If the ECU is programmed for 370's you can tune up to 50% higher from there on the injectors and so on.

Obviously NA ECU's have more timing so we just set base timing back. NA ECU's on small turbo cars work great with a S-AFC. I had a friend with a stock UK DE with a T-28. The car made 301 whp at 15 psi on stock cams with a DE ECU and a S-AFC. Car ran like a raped ape for years. This all on pump gas.

So two things proven. A 10:1 motor on boost at 15 psi on pump gas and tuned on a DE ECU and a S-AFC.

People will argue this all day but, those are the people who have never done it.

^Thanks for the info Rob. I'll have to read up some more on the S-AFC. Is Apexi a good one to go with? I have a friend that is a tuner that speaks highly of them. I would like to tune my N/A UK motor with one on my stock ECU, but I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. I'll do some more searching and report back.

The only problem i have seen many times with N/A ECU, SAFC and 370cc injectors (or bigger), is the AFR's are a bit unstable on idle, since the base map on the ECU is not set for injectors that size, also some OBD2 cars could be a big pain in the as$.

As long as you are staying n/a is fine. Just play a lil with the distributor timing on the dyna, fuel pressure and SAFC.

ok im think im gonna try the VE+T combo, as long as i can get one for a good price. If not ill just go the DET route. Im gonna go ahead and get my VVL then piece together a turbo kit.

What do you guys think about?

Boost a DE. That is all you need.

A properly built SR20DE-T is highly affordable, you can easily achieve your power goals, and it can be very safe and reliable.

Invest the rest.

Bada-bing. Agreed. 2-3K to boost the DE.

Spend the rest on the other areas of the vehicle that will require upgrading to keep up with (more than) doubling the stock whp.

Did anybody else actually look at E-Mills stated goals?

For your stated goals, you are wasting your money on the VE motor.

You can easily achieve exactly what you want with a relatively simple DE-T.

You do not require starting with a $800-1,000 motor. That is nuts, based on your budget and your goals.

it could be made to work. it will not match the exhaust ports with out some adjustment. mazworx, protech, and asp make a manifold that is designed for the ve motor.
