The difference is that the main caps in the DE / DET are shorter, so that the overall height of main cap + girdle is the same as the VE's main caps on their own.

The main cap bolts are the same length regardless of whether the motor's a DE or a VE.

Gotcha.
That other thread made mention of removing the girdle and using main cap bolts from a roller rocker. I assume the roller rocker main cap bolts are shorter because it's just DE main caps with no girdle? *shrug* A bit off topic sorry.

And you didn't have to modify anything?

And don't worry about off-topic: It's all in the name of knowledge

And just so I know what we are all talking about: Main caps, what are they?

That's going to be my next build! A turbo VVL DET? That just sounds badass, right?

No.

Main caps are the caps that secure the crank to the block.

If you have a VE and you use VE main caps with a DE girdle you will have to use DE main bolts and you will have to grind away alittle nside the oil pan.

My 2.2L motor built in 1998 was a RR bottom end which is like a VE and I put a girdle on it.
