When my SE-R was boosted, I daily drove that thing without blinking an eye. Over 4 years, and almost 50k miles. Hell, I even still ran ice cold A/C in that bad boy in the summer, and chugged through the snow and salt in the Jersey winters.
I'm not sure what my problem was but that thing blew through clutches like it was its job. One time I did have to replace it just because it simply wasn't holding the power (after upping to 14psi and adding S4 cams).
The turbo fun came to an end when it developed rod knock. I pulled the DET and dropped in a VE, which years later I have come to regard as a mistake.
Nonetheless, any modded car will give you its fair share of issues. Especially on a platform that is older than the newest licensed drivers on the road
In the end, if you are ultimately concerned about reliability, I'd say don't go turbo. Taking a car and doubling its horsepower/torque will never make a car more reliable lol! And its definitely not giving you peace-of-mind reliability...unless you like lying to yourself.
