That will more than likely not clear the dipstick tube.... looks that way when I look at my engine.

I believe it'll be ok. The alternator would be an issue before the dipstick tube. Here's a pic of one I made, and my wastegate pipe isn't as tight a bend as his. You can see how close I am to the alternator. The grounding bolt actually hits the pipe wrap. The dipstick tube is in the upper left corner.

For what's it worth, I think it'll be ok.

Damian,

I'm taking my t28 off this weekend for sure... I am replacing my turbo with another t28, for what its worth, I can test fit in my nx for you, take pictures and send it back but it would have to be this weekend. I can measure the flapper as well if you want as I will have everything out in the open and apart. Just let me know.

It feels nice. Can I pat my own back again? Mmmmm.

That piece looks great for what it is. My point was that I think some people here do not fully understand the challenges in this project, and sometimes their expectations are a little unrealistic. This is not directed at anyone with money invested, the communication is another issue.

I would like to see a picture of the inside of the welds.

Well, the issue is, the flapper won't open right now. I'm going to have to grind the flange to get clearance. At the current state, these consume some serious hours to get to the ready state. A CNC flange is almost necessary to make this feasible. I'm gonna see how much time it takes to remove the material necessary.

This weekend could be tight. Let me see what I can get done tomorrow. The other issue is the location of the O2 bung. I could place it consistent with the stock piece and see what happens I suppose.

There's 100%+ penetration, but this piece is unbackpurged, so the welds are gray inside.

The next one will need to be made differently though, because there were several weld challenges. My one employee MIG'd the difficult location on this one because it's mild, but the next one will have to leave more room for me to get the tungsten close. It's right at the inside of the radius. I'll get insides when I am at the shop tomorrow.

keep in touch man. I will be putting my car back together this weekend to test... but as of yet its been a little cold. I plan to work on the car friday, but its a little late in the season to start driving this turbo car everywhere... chances are down the line it will be back up in the garage to get it ready for the convention... so if things change and you cant find a local test fitter, just let me (us) know. I'm sure I'll be available to do so all this winter.
