Sidemount intercoolers?
i been searching for pictures to see how they're set up, but i cant seem to find much about it. Not sure if its because i suck at searching, or is it because side mount intercooler are a bad idea?

Well a side mount will see less air flow than a front mount so I would think its less efficient. Also the piping seems like it would be more difficult because all pipes would have to go to one section as opposed to a split between each half of the car.

Just wait like one more week and I'll get pics of my water to air intercooler system that my buddy's shop here in Houston is making to begin production soon. Very high quality welding, almost robot like. Price is higher than what most ppl want to spend, but install, fitment, and power levels are far superior than any setup any other company offers. The intercooler is custom made, no prefabbed BS cores, the real deal, Garret qaulity specific air to water intercooler. The way they have made it, it will work with any FWD/AWD configuration, any manifold and turbo is easy to adapt with only changing 2 pipes, which I'll be having them make jigs for since I have a bunch of different turbos for them. I truely hope people like the setup because it is the easiest setup to install and maintain, only 4 couplers and no more worries about horrible pipe fitment. The setup can work on P10s, B13s, B14s and also P11s.

I dont think many people run SMICs on this forum. My Z32 TT had SMICs but they come stock like that. The good thing about SMICs is that they dont block airflow to the radiator.

David next time Im in Houston visiting the GF we need to meet up. That sounds like a great setup as opposed to the old air to air FMIC setups people are running on this forum.

Here is pretty much what the setup will look like. The IC is not in the same position, but that is pretty much what their work looks like... So ya... Get ready. Final build HP will be 600+, stage one is only 300HP. But this setup I can keep for ever regaurdless of what manifolds or turbos I get. Oh and in the 110+ degree TX heat while all the Evos and Sti cruising with HPD get heat soaked, I'll be just fine

Hes not looking for Air to water setups. Im sure that he is looking for a SMIC either because of
1. Price
2.Space limitations
3.Simpler plumbing.

4.Sleeper status as well.

i was gonna put a TMIC, but that would mean a pretty big hood scoop.
i swear i had just seen few SMIC systems not to long ago in the forum(am i losing my mind?), but hey if i can afford somethin better then the SMIC, i might just do that some day.

SMIC can only do so much... look at the DSMs... air flow on a SMIC is not that great. Nissan had 2 large SMIC for the 300ZX and it still only made 300HP, so don't count on a single SMIC to support 300HP, cooling effect is just not there. Now, if you can get suffiecent air flow to the IC or a fan on it, then ya, but you're going to have to run a pretty thick core. I've done Intercooler install and dyno results on MR2s after going from a factory intercooler to a Spearco core that was double the thickness of the factory core and got great results, but it was still pretty large. If someone wants a Sidemount, I'll have my buddy fab one up, dyno test it, and then share the temps and such. I have a DSM sidemount IC somewhere on my shelf... ya see... in TX we do things big... FYI that civic is 500"W"HP on a stock unopened engine.
