Hey Stratton I hope you don't mind me chiming in.

am i correct in assuming this ?
I have yet to push my T28 as far as it'll go and there may be much more to it than most people think. However, everyone typically agrees it really starts to struggle past 300 WHP and above 330 WHP it is running a marathon with an elephant on it's back.

Adding an intake manifold would get you 300 WHP at less boost, and maybe 310 or 320 at the same boost, but you won't see the massive gains others might who have a turbo with room to grow.

i think i im leaning towards head gasket and a bigger turbo. something like 718r bolts right on some head studs and make 380whp all day.

A head gasket seems entirely unnecessary. *shrug*
Also, the VE head part is out of left field. You don't want to change your charge pipes or down pipe but you'll put on a VE head?

just trying to keep it fairly simple with proven parts and a few tricks here and their .
Fairly simple with proven parts is an idea I can get behind. I feel like we're in a similar situation with out cars (except yours runs). Both with T28s and both wanting more power, but both wanting to keep it simple.
I too wouldn't spend the money on a custom manifold. The stock manifolds unmodified are good for 400-500 WHP with the proper turbo. Bore one out and/or extrude hone it and it'll be even easier to get there. No need to change the downpipe or charge pipes.

You already have cams rigth??
This is basically my advice too if you want to make more power, but maybe do the GT2871R. 400-450 WHP shouldn't be a problem.

I completely see where these guys are coming from. I would agree, at the least, you should drive it around and enjoy it for a year or so before doing anything else to it. Take a break, relax, enjoy the car. Really think about what the expense of the project will be in time, money, temp. loss of car, loss of traction when you're done, etc.

If it needs to be faster, you're basically a turbo (and supporting fuel) away from that goal. Do you have a B13/B14 transmission? If so, I wouldn't even think about more power until you upgrade to a P11/B15.
As for the lack of traction, even if you don't do anything else, you should consider progressive boost with an electronic boost controller (now you'll have three boxes instead of just one...). Boost by gear, speed, rpm, throttle position, etc. can work wonders.

He's right. At the end of the day it's up to you.

stratton.

why not I run 15psi on my stock jdm de and have run up to 17psi on pump. this is with a jwt/safc2 combo.

Congrats on the numbers Stratton, and ill chime in on some things as well.

You know how many motors i went through with my smaller turbos. At high hp and boost levels with them, they are out of their efficiency range. I think one of the best things you can do is do an intake manifold. That will get you at your same hp level with less boost. You will still be flowing the same amount of power and air just more efficiency. This puts less heat on the turbo. Think of it this way. PSI is also directly related to restriction in the entire piping, intake, engine, and turbo. This is why increasing efficiency by removing restriction is the easiest way to create more power.

Yeah your setup is perfect for street use and plenty to beat most cars out there and have a lot of fun doing it without having to worry about too much things breaking. Again like most said, above those levels you get into the point where your breaking stuff left and right. Im at 19psi on my 60 trim on a daily basis which was at 406whp,365wtq and i went through 2 b13/14 trannies in 7 months 7500 miles. Not only that i went through my ACT extreme PP and brand new 6 puck sprung disk in 7500 miles because it wasnt holding my higher boost levels at the track, close to 500whp. So it burnt to a crisp.

So now im left with the car down right now while i save up the money to put me together a P11 trans ($550) and for a Clutchmasters Twin Disk Clutch/Flywheel set ($1100) These by far are the most expensive mods on my car period. But thats what it takes to make the drivetrain reliable and almost bullet proof. My motor is also fully built and has been perfect. All my money went into making power but didnt have the clutch and trans to hold it.

But i will tell you one thing. Destroying Procharged C5 Z06's, Vipers, Big built hondas, Cobras, 600,750, and higher crotch rockets, now thats priceless and worth every dime spent as they watch an econobox sentra walk away like they are standing still. Burning brand new sticky tires all the way to 120mph on high boost. Priceless.

Again i was the same way you were. Wanting more and more and in the end i learned a lot about a turbos capabilities and limits and had fun doing it but i wish i would have just took that money and put it into a built motor and big turbo to begin with. If you want more power i would just go with a large turbo that will get you there and have fun. You have the fuel to go to 600+whp if you want so why not. But just take into consideration that you will break stuff. haha

for the fact that he want more and more and more. He hasnt hit the track up with it yet so what do you think he wants more and more and more power for. To accelerate faster and faster and faster.

You know why because its power like that that beats cars like that. And again, by my own experience, its a priceless feeling. Thats all i stated. haha

Again i hope they find your car man. I couldnt imagine if someone stole my car, if they could even drive it properly, hahaha

i see no harm with the imput that ashtonsser gives, its his personal expierences with simular setups that strat is running, its good to hear different perspectives from other people whom have ran simular setups in the past, or whom are currently running simular setups. be open minded. he isnt talking about himself in a boasting way, but more so constructive way letting him know what that setup can do ect....its all love guys all love.

i love YOU All :o)
