Stop guessing? No hypothesis allowed? Okay.

Show me a "stock" VE with this problem and I'll change my hypothesis. Show me a "stock" DE(T) with this problem and I'll change my hypothesis.

I never said it would be sure to happen on a DE(T) plus VE oil pump setup. Your experience helps add to the pool of experiences, but it doesn't disprove the theory. When something happens out of the ordinary, I devise a theory about it. I don't usually mention it or anything, I just hold on to it for a while. I thought it appropriate to mention it in this thread so people with regular engines wouldn't get the wrong idea (there are very slim details in this thread about Cliff and Ahston's rare combination of parts). No, I won't stop doing that. Thanks for your input though.

That and we were both using thick oils. I was using mobil 1 15w50, which creates a bit more oil pressure than when i first used thinner oil. Extreme heat as well. I always changed my oil every 1500-2000 miles with the abuse i put on the motor.

So far no issues since red loctite and hammering it back in. I will be using the same mobil1 15w50 oil. After seeing what my bearings looked like after 10k miles of the abuse i put on it im confident that the mobil1 with the ve pump is a big factor into that.

Go ahead and add ves to the list. Finally after 2 full seasons of track use my sr16 ve block popped out the pin. And I didn't even notice till now. Guess im just going to leave the block in and squeeze that pin back in w some loctite. I just finally got around to cleaning my lower pan and that's why I haven't noticed until now... wish I would have seen it months ago.

Yup.

The chain oiler pin is very important. Mine poped out and costed me my VE-T. It had come out completely and the motor could not send enough oil pressure to the head, causing a really bad ticking noise that no one could figure out. The oil pressure gage still showed normal oil pressure because the pin and the oil pump out put are so close together.


That was 2004-2005.

Has anyone had them pop out after re installing them with loctite?

I got mine back in with red loctite but now im nervous its going to come out again...

Nope, mine is still fine. I put loctite and let it cure for 24 hours before putting oil in it and starting it.

I almost want to try to get mine out on my new ve block and loctite it but dont want to risk damaging the pin I might try to just turn the block vertical and saturate around the pin with loctite and see if it will soak in down in the pin and keep it from happening if it doesnt easily come out.

We shall see I guess.
