Thread: Went to track, stuff broke. :(

The car feels incredible SE-Rican! Pulls very nice. I kept the dizzy attatched to the cam cap as to not disturb timing at all. So the next dyno will be an exact comparison from the VET cams. Not one thing has changed.

I am hoping to hit in the 12s with street tires today.

There is no time slip or mph to report. This drag strip is in the ghetto. Old airport. So All I have is what everyone heard over the speaker. 12.8.

I have some good news and some bad news. Car ran like a raped ape on the way down. I blew off a coupler half-way down having too much fun on the freeway. With my boost pipe dragging on the ground for a few miles before stopping to fix it. There was a lot of oil coming out of the pipes when we went to fix them. The ONLY way for oil to get into the pipes is by way of turbo. Not pleasant because everything is just fine with the hookups/restrictor etc. Apparently in 350 miles I lost about a quart of oil, but the engine isn't burning it, and there are no drips under the car. Grrrrr. Brand new turbo, shouldn't do this.

I get to the track and she isn't sounding right. I've heard this before. The wastegate is stuck open. Sure enough, the wg was blowing out like crazy at idle. Grrrr. I take it off and start to take it apart after the car cools off. Get it off, sure enough it is stuck open. AGAIN! WTF! I almost didn't even bother fixing it because I noticed a HUGE CRACK along the whole side of the wastegate. I am beyond pissed. Brand new $300 wastegates and all they do is fall apart. Junk! I am going to see if TIAL can send me some new ones because frankly I am done dealing with it.

I get it back on the track and sure enough the car runs great. But the lack of traction on these runs resulted in horrible 13.8, 14.0, etc. Grand. I got nervous running a cammed S10 and just roasted the tires, but the top end pull was nuts, and I pulled away pretty good.

I did have some fun with an SRT4 on the way there. 5th gear, half throttle, and pulled away. When talking to him at the track he said: "I could have sworn I heard Vtec kick in!" LOL.

This was 1/2 throttle until about 6500rpm, then stabbed it.


Bad cameraman! This was a 4th-5th gear pull to the limiter.

Ya. Turbo spitting out oil. And it is new. And these two new TAIL gates just won't hold up.

this sucks .....

Well, at least the car runs good now. Just gotta get new gates and find out why the turbo like to force feed engine oil into my pipes. Then it is all good again.
