You would be very damn surprised to see how much of a difference a tune can have when you have 100% control of it.

Manny didn't sell his JWT stuff and buy a EMS for no reason The car was night and day with the two tunes.

I hate to keep on bringing up Manny's car but, it the only one I have had a lot of hands on with. My car will have a simillar set up.

No man its all good. I need the feedback. I have done a lot of experimenting with this motor and I've learned a lot already. It just seems like I am going about things the wrong way to get the results I want.

Case in point, I was going to use a tubular mani to start, but I wanted something to be reliable without cracking. I went in the wrong direction and did the log manifold on the VE. Not the best decision, but with the VET cams it made good power.

Then I decided to go tubular and figured TS would be amazing. A lot of friends of mine are using TS on T4 turbos with great results. I figured, Hell, a twin scroll VE would be awesome!

Noone could see that the TS/tubular with std VE cams would actually make LESS power than a log mani with VET cams. Everyone was expecting the TS setup to blow away my old numbers. But then again, noone knew how restrictive a .78 housing is on this turbo. It's like running a .64ar T2 flanged GT3076r. Go figure, people who try that turbo get pretty similar results. Slow boost onset, and crappy power.

This turbo needs to flow. The VE exhaust side is very much affected by the flow of the turbine/housing. Without the right flow, the backpressure will lead to incureable pumping losses. On low boost the VE cams seemed to do pretty good. But as the boost went up, they fell on their face! Live and learn. I am debating whether or not to go for a 1.06ar exhaust housing...

From one extreme to the next to see what happens. Noone else has tried the 1.06ar. It could be a laggy unresponsive dog, but I should have zero issues reaching crossover with that housing. Tekkie, you still got yours?

I have thought of going with a .82 at least just to get flow to be decent, but knowing that a .86ar 3071r in a T2 still flows better on the exhaust doesn't sit well with me. The 1.06 should still spool faster than a .82 35r, which flows the same at higher pressure ratios.

If anyone wants to try this TS housing to see if they can get more power, be my guest. I'll let you borrow this thing and see what you can do. But not many people have the right setup to even try TS housings.

I was thinking... there is about 30 different turbos and housings at my buddys place. He's got like 100 housings for many holset turbos, and some BW s200 and such. I could pick out anything from a 1.01ar T3 turbo TS, to a 1.4ar TS housing. Now wouldn't that be interesting to make a ton more power on a old diesel turbo.

off topic but when was manny building boost ??? and was his turbo ball bearring ?? I am guessing since the sc61 has a gt35r compressor wheel , that a actual gt35r on a VE+T build simmilar to alot of ours would spool simmilarly and make decent power ( 500whp) I am guessing valve springs would help to let it rev a little better also full spool somewhere in the 4500-4800 range would be acceptible sorry for the off topic ?? but I dont know if the 1.06 housing is the awnser

What housing was manny running again? .82 on the SC61? Even if he was running a .70 it would still flow tons more than this small T31 turbine. The SC61 is somewhere around 75mm right?

Manny's car was building boost right around 4500 rpms IIRC. Also the back housing on his turbo was a .63. The turbo was journal bearing. The boost in his car came on hard as hell. It was a very damn fast car. That's why when I hear all this VE-T talk I am shocked that everyone wants to go with such a big turbo. Especially for a street car. His SC-61 had very little lag. It was perfect. Cruising around town you could easily saty out of boost but, when you got in to it hold on.

I am going with a smaller sized SC-61 for sure on my motor if not a GT3071r.

4500 rpms ....is not that fast a gt35r should be around there and it is ball bearring , not journal bearring like the sc61 , which has the same compresser wheel as the SC6152 , but the 6152 has a smaller exhaust wheel and housing...I think a gt35r would be great , I am beggining to wonder if the gt30r is just to small to flow properly for ve applications...

You got a very good point there too. I mean jp has proven what a large turbo can do even on a bone stock ve motor. It seems the larger turbos at least anything larger than the t28's work very well with his setup.

There is no reason his 30r shouldnt be making better power than he is.

Im making full boost by about 4800 rpms on my T3TO4 60 trim with the .82 turbine housing. I dont mind the lag from the larger size housing cuz even over the smaller turbine im sure its very very minimal but the larger housing does allow me to go to much higher hp range over the smaller and its especially safe against building up too much backpressure. This turbo flows well even though its a journal bearing turbo. Plus i dont have to worry about it. Just got done rebuilding it so its good as new.

My car does what it wants to do even with the de head. I was debating on going with a ve head but i just cant justify spending the extra money to do so when im making as much power as i am and how much ill be making here shortly after the manifold goes on.

Thanks ashton. I like the SC61. Even with a .63ar housing, the SC61 turbine will kill the flow of a .63 T31 turbine. It wouldn't even be close! We're talkin about 70-74mm 75trim turbines compared to a 84 trim 60mm turbine. The SC61 is a way better match.

The .82 is getting closer to the area where the SC61 is. The .63 SC61 is probably close to 25-27lb/min of corrected gas flow. This amount of flow seems to be the minimum the VE needs before really responding well.

The 1.06 housing flows over 30lb/min on the 30r, but would probably be laggy. Even though the wheel diameter is much smaller, I think it will perform like a .82 35r. The VE def wouldn't mind the higher airflow.

The sc61552 still flows enough air for 600hp. The turbine is a very good match for the compressor size.

invest in a water alky injection coheed there are many several good things like for example it lower the backpressure ,do not even think in the 1.06 open t3 housing for you it will be very laggy .
If you can send me the measurements of the chra and I cand send you a "twin scroll" 0.84 turbine housing for free ( you pay the shipping but first try alky and a calum ecu.

not only that the alky injection will fill in the void of the loss of power due to higher altitues as well. It will help densen the incoming air in general also resulting in more power. Id give it a shot if i were you Coheed. It definetly cant hurt anything.

I love being at sea level. haha
