Avenir Manifold w/ GT28RS
I just got my GT28RS in the mail today, bolted it up to the J pipe and manifold, and went to put it on the motor. The wastegate is hitting against the side of the block so I can't get a snug fit for the manifold. I shaved off a little bit into the block but I dont want to go too far. Anyone else have any ideas? I have about a 1/2" spacing until the manifold is snug.

I don't want to resort to getting a new manifold because that means I will have to get a new downpipe or something.... I would prefer to have everything line up the way it is right now, I just need to get it to fit a little better.

Taken from Andreas Miko

Its very easy to make a small modification that stops the turbo from fitting the block. I have been doing this for about 10 years now.

All you have to do is shave the T25 flange side on the GTIR manifod by 3/8 inch. By doing this youy lift the turbo up and also away from the block. Not even the 3 inch inlet will touch.

How much do you shave it down though? And do you shave it down straight or at an angle?

3/8 of an inch and if you do it on an angle I dont think it will seal correctly on the mani

Plus that makes the downpipe and intercooler piping fit awkwardly. I still want everything to fit right, but I cant think of any ideas. I was thinking about cutting the bracket that the wastegate is on and moving it a little closer to the turbo. The wastegate I have on it is about 1/2" from the side of the turbo. If I did that, that would give me a little more rim.

it will give everything more clearance actually. raise the turbo off the crossmember a bit more intake room dp will just go up a bit higher but i doubt it will have any clearance problems.

downpipe can be adjusted, intercooler piping can be adjusted why hack the wastegate and all that when you can do it the correct way

do you have the right wastegate and bracket for a fwd setup. most gt28rs come with the wrong waste gate and bracket. with the correct bracket very little modification is needed for the compressor housing to clear the block. I only had to remove 1/8" from the bellhousing for the turbo to clear.
