Thread: gtir or de?

im not 100% famillure with the gtir, are they stock map or maf? and are you speaking IF you run a map thati s the way yo would fun it?

to be honest if you built the de right you could push whatever you want, personally i would rebuild at least the bottom end for boost, now days you can get all the parts you need for a decent price, either use stock pistons with like eagle rods, and have it all built to spec, it would be a smart choice

gtir comes maf as standard, map sensor from a common chamber is how its done if you stick with the quads, if you only take it from one tb you aren't getting 'true' reading, you are only getting a vacuam off of that one cylinder.

next time im with si i'll get pics of the set up on his car, he still runs quads , on mine i threw the quads in the bin

all good to hear.....look like ill just be throwing a de plus the gtir **** for now....i understand the whole resistor thing, but i thought if you were using a stock gtir ecu and maf, that was all you needed to run the 444 cc injectors? as in, for now i want to just throw a de in to drive the car, using my top feed fuel rail, and the stock maf/ecu/injector combo. assuming the 444s fit in that rail, i should be good to go, right? i know these are kind of simple questions, but its always assumed your NOT using the stock ecu. i will be, at least for the time being.

besides the map sensor issues how come you dont like the itb's ben? are there any differences in the way the intake manifold makes power from the de style or det style verses the itb gtir style

I don't have any other big issues with the ITBs other than the MAP/MAF tuning thing. They are more complex, and I hear they don't hold up well in a Baja rally, but who's ever going to do that?

As far as the GTi-R intake manifold goes, it's likely better than the DE and DET manifolds. It certainly has a better head design, so it flows better. Not sure how much better the intake manifold is, but that would be my guess. I don't think they sacrificed flow just to get the ITBs in there.

all this sounds very good......kind of excited, about time i got inside a motor and did something. think i have a good de lined up, so at least i can have a fun 280 hpish car untill i get the gtir motor done.......like i said, ill just be using the stock maf and ecu/injectors, so ill have to try to stay a little conservative. Ill probably stick to maf tuning......i know everyone has a preference, its just the simplest way as far as i see. i apreciate the info too.....glad to know the internals are as beefy as everyones claiming. kind figured that already, but its nice to hear it from other sources.

I wouldn't run the DE on boost with the GTi-R ECU. Timing is going to be for a 8.3:1 compression engine and you'll have 9.5:1. Okay, I guess if you put the base timing down as a ghetto fix that could work. I think stock base timing for a GTi-R is 20 degrees BTCD (don't take my word for it though) so back that off to 15 degrees and make sure you put the highest octane available it it.

yeah, i dont know if i mentioned it, but that was kinda the idea. probably set it at 12 degrees or so, get a knock light, and bump it up from there. but yeah, i have considered the fact that the ecu will have some "agressive" ignition maps.....im THINKING it shouldnt be too bad though....seen a lot of guys use the u13 ecus with pretty good results. based purely on my hopes and prayers, i think that with the fact that it IS going to be a relatively tame tune from the factory, if i use a knock light and premium gas, itll probably end up being pretty "aggresive" street tune...im going to be carefull, i do understand that the ignition maps are NOT linear, but i think its close enough to be ok, as long as i get the base timing set conservatively. its only temporary anyway, just to keep me entertained and drving the car.
