Yes, so moral of the story is... you can still break a p11/b15 box, but it won't necessarily be 3rd to let go. My 3rd gear is in perfect shape!

Thanks stratton. More info we can add to this. I want to make a new thread and sticky it if this works. So we know what works, and what won't.

The non-lsd tranny is the one to get. It has the stronger case and gear stacks and is found everywhere for under $500! you can add a JGY or phantom grip LSD for dirt cheap, and it will perform every bit as good or Better than the factory LSD unit will.

The big plus is they are everywhere, and for the price I can't justify spending any more. My p11 was $800 when I bought it, and that was with shipping. In the future expect the P11 boxes to get very very rare, and cost a lot. In which case, the non-lsd would work amazing with an added LSD.

Well we have definitely proved the p11/b15 theory to be false. That gear you destroyed looked just like my b13 4th gear when I demolished it. For the sake of spending less money, I will just keep getting used p10 non lsd transmissions and switching out the gear stack when ever necessary into my b13 case. The p10 gears are still holding up after a couple years, so we will see what happens.

You can certainly see that the P11/B15 case is very strong, and the way the shafts are supported will reduce gear-spread significantly. Notice my 3rd gear still looking perfect even with over a hundred drag passes and tons of abuse.

The P11/B15 is far better, much stronger, and is worth every penny. But they are not indestructible. If you ask me, I think I got a lemon tranny. I've seen a few transmissions have issues with the input shaft casting. Some have broken inside the trans just behind the input shaft bearing! Twisted off. I am pretty sure the beating this tranny saw just worked through a weakened area of the shaft.... it just so happened to be the gear.

You can see the actual gear held up pretty decent, but it looks like the actual input shaft part of the gear was the culprit. There is about 1/3 of a tooth left on the input shaft!

IT doesn't seem like the gears will have the issue breaking, but 2nd gear is part of the shaft casting on the input side.

Besides that, there are TONS of people using the B15/P11 tranny and have had very good luck with their beatings! GregV I'm sure would still recommend the newer box. But if you do break it there is a cheap alternative out there for all of us! Since the QG18 has the same stacks, and such low power, you are almost guaranteed a perfect tranny regardless of mileage lol.
