I cant justify recomending you spend money on something your going to upgrade anyway. Weld the flapper shut and go external. Your gonna run into more headaches trying to get an after market internal wastegate to fit more so then an external one. But im just saying...

You gotta do what you gotta do.

atp
forge internal adjustable

BUT... YES GO EXTERNAL FOR THE NOISE.

Not just the noise but the extra power and control. But the noise is addicting...like crack.

external wastegates are more accurate, better controlled, better design. i dont see a reasonm to go with a upgraded internal, because the external are so much better

ahhh, I thought you were saying you like the noise each time the external flange on your manifold cracks

This will be my DD, I don't want to have something else on the car that could break. Putting a turbo on it alone adds a lot of reliability issues. As much areas I can cut down on the better. And the sound is actually something I don't want. I want the car to be as quiet as possible. Reliability > Sound + Power. For me anyways. I don't want to take the risk. Reading posts of more than one person having a cracked manifold or having to re-weld it a few times is enough for me to stay away.

The only way I'd go external is to get a custom manifold and as I said in my previous post, that's something I don't want to spend the money on at this point.

I don't want to upgrade really. If the turbo came w/the stock actuator I'd probably use it. I just thought it'd be a good thing to do since I want to go internal and the turbo doesn't come w/an actuator anyways. I can go w/a stock psi actuator, but I think an upgraded one would be better.

External wastegates are better than internal wastegates, but depending on what you want out of the car, it certainly isn't a necessity. I wouldn't mess with an upgraded internal gate actuator. Just find a cheap stock one and call it a day.

If I went w/the stock one and assuming it's rated @ 7psi, if I went over 14psi w/an EBC wouldn't I start having problems holding boost? That's the main reason I would like to upgrade. FWIU, you want to have the actuator be rated at max boost you would be running divided by 2. So if 20psi was the max, it'd be best to have an actuator rated at 10psi or 12psi.

Correct. EBC's only have corrections to 100%. (2x spring pressure).

It won't be a problem, honestly. The EBC just can't correct over what your wastegate spring pressure x2 is. You can have it MAX and it'll still only do twice the spring pressure.

Thanks for confirming that, that's how I thought it worked but wasn't 100% sure. And the minimum boost I could run would be the stock actuator rating. That's why I don't want to get anything too high like 18psi, because I could only run the car at the lowest of 18psi.

I think if I can find something that's around 10 or 12 psi that'd be the best.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I saw that atpturbo had this one:

Wastegate Actuator 11PSI, 2 Bolt Bracket Style: atpturbo.com

but the way it's shaped, I'm not sure if it'd fit on an Avenir manifold. I know the stock wastegate fits with some grinding of the block and I'm OK w/that.

Then there's this one, rated at 12-14 psi:

Wastegate Actuator, High Pressure, 12-14 PSI, upgrade for GT28R: atpturbo.com

This is adjustable down to 12psi, I think this is the same one as the stock Garrett high pressure actuator. Leaning towards this one.

agreed. I will never run a internal gated setup again.
