Breaking up again
It's started again. I drive the car, get to around 5psi and it starts breaking up. It was fine yesterday, and it's been fine ever since I replaced a broken spark plug wire a few months ago. This is really starting to bug me. I'm wondering if the humidity here could be affecting the distributor...or maybe I just need a spark plug change. I haven't taken a look at them yet...it just started happening this morning, and I'm at work. I'll have to see if I can borrow someone's tools, mine are all at my parent's house an hour away. But anyway...I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

I'm not really sure how to describe the problem, other than when it starts to make boost, it just falls on it's face. No other drivability issues...and nothing's changed since yesterday. This morning there was a considerable amount of condensation on the car...maybe some moisture got in the dizzy. I'll have to see how she does after she's had the day to dry out.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated. Just anything I can check into easily. Thanks in advance.

it looks like a boost leak, check your clamps and do a boost leak test to see if ther´s the problem.

How much do you drive your car? Whens the last time you changed the spark plugs?

It's daily driven, and I haven't changed the spark plugs yet...I probably need to, which is what I was thinking.

Another symptom popped up at lunch today which makes me wonder if it's a boost leak, or a vac. leak between the boost controller and waste-gate. I was driving it, to see if it had dried out...and it was only making 8/9psi. Now I had a boost leak before, and since I'm on a draw-thru MAF set-up...a boost leak would cause drivability issues, right? Or maybe if it's not a really bad leak, it won't? But I'll check over all the clamps this evening, and see if I find any obvious holes...other than that, I still have my friend's boost leak tester so maybe I'll try that at my friend's shop this weekend.

Thanks for the advice, and future advice guys.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure that I just have a boost leak again. 14psi daily is likely to dislodge charge pipes, I'd imagine. I'm going to attack that tomorrow evening when a) it's cooler outside, and b) I'm not so busy. I should be able to check/repair the loose clamp/coupler easily. And then I'll try to get to my friend's shop this weekend to check the plugs, and do an actual boost leak test.

please hurry and fix this so you can tell me what you did. if its your dizzy and it fixes your problem then thats probably whats going on in my car. my dizzy through a cam angle code and it falls on its face after a certain rpm and sometime i can get it to go all the way up if i dont floor it but gradualy press the gas. if i floor it it will fall on its face and it wont let me go n e were

I'm 99% sure it's a boost leak. I think the whole 8psi problem was just because it was in closed loop...because as soon as it warms up, it breaks up. And I'm even pretty sure I know which clamp it is...just have to try to tighten it tomorrow.

So, you stayin' turbo now?

USE HAIRSPRAY ON THE COUPLERS! Sorry for caps, just wanted to make sure you read that

Hairspray will make the couplers a BIITCH to come off, but that's the whole point, right?

Ah, very cool tip Tek. Thanks. I was actually going to ask that...I thought I read somewhere to use dish soap or something like that, too.
