Bigger gap= better response, idle, fuel economy, and power. A smaller gap is used when tons of air is crammed into the cylinder and the coil is unable to product a spark. More air= higher resistance.
Too small of a gap and the car can start to misfire. Most of the time you get a partial-throttle misfire when the gap is under .022 or so. Car will just sound like it is cutting out a bit at partial throttle, but will haul when in boost.
