Thread: Went to the strip. Goodbye clutch...

I went out to the track tonight for the first time since boosting the se-r and toasted the clutch on the first pass while still in the box... I don't know whether to be mad or sad. It was a brand new act 4-puck unsprung and hd pp and it went out during my first burnout. I've been driving the car for a few weeks now with the clutch in it and haven't had any problems with it till tonight. Now I have to leave my car at the track overnight and get it in the morning and tow it home so the mad scientist and I can tear it down and fix the welds on the intake manifold LOL.

sounds like it glazed over pretty good. I've seen a few high hp cars completely melt down clutches the first time at the track. How much power do you have in that thing? and ACT should handle 400whp without any issues.

Well its good to take out the clutch vs the tranny. If its the T25 setup in the sig thats waaaay too much clutch. Think of the clutch as the fuse for the transmission. Did you attempt some ginormous burnout or something?

I haven't taken the car apart yet to see exactly what happened. I know it didn't explode and there's nothing wrong with the tranny, I'm fairly certain. I'll know when I get my car home

Yeah sounds like you created some hot spots on it or glazed it over, i did the same thing with an act 2600 extreme when i had a t25/t28. i was burning out in the box and caught a dry patch of pavement the pass side axle twisted, and the driver side ripped the splines right off on the outer end. Also the clutch was heavily glazed over, the car was in need of a tow for sure after that. LOL

if the car doesn't move, I doubt it is the clutch at that power level. Most likely the axle snapped.

Agreed. I've nursed a glazed clutch home more than once, they're driveable. If you didn't hear all hell break loose in the bell housing it's most likely something else. Jack the front end of the car up so both wheels are in the air and put it in gear, can you spin one wheel easily?

it acts like the clutch went. I can put it into gear and it wants to drive but then starts to slip. I'm still waiting to get the car back to my house. It's at my buddy's house right now. He's bringing it here in the morning and I'll tear it apart and find out for sure.

I didin't hear anything out of the ordinary during the burnout. It just felt like the wheels subtly stopped spinning during the burnout. I was still able to stage at the light but got nothing on the launch.

Like I said, I'll find out for sure when I tear it apart tomorrow.

Yeah, the passenger side spins freely and the driver side is hard to spin. Harder than if everything were fine and you tried spinning the wheel while in gear. Only one wheel spins and the other wheel doesn't move at all...
