Sprung vs Unsprung clutches
For those of you that have had both. There are some good and some bad to each. Please state your opinions.

Sprung:
Nice engagement, with sometimes even stock driveability on high hp engines.
Little chatter on most 6-pucks.

Can have issues with springs jumping out of the clutch disk windows.
Cannot hold extreme power levels with out ^^^ happening.

Unsprung:
More harsh engagement.
No risk of spring failure.
Hold a lot of power because ^^^ doesn't happen.

I have had several 6-pucks and all of them have been super smooth on engagment and grab power very nicely. But after over 15K of hard use, the springs were trying to make an exit!

Now I am unsprung, but haven't driven it yet. Let's hear your opinions and reviews on this.

Unsprung is drivable. But its embarrassing to me to have to spin the tires every time you start from a stop, most people on the street don't understand. Not to mention its very uncomfortable when you have other people in the car. (Some will try and feed you bull that they never spin the tires, I am over exaggerating of coarse, but you get the idea)

That said. I am full race, I don't give a damn. I also like the feeling for sure of the direct grab in a race car.

If I was making enough power to need one, I would find another option or not DD the car. IMO an unsprung clutch is just a plain pita on the street. And trust me that is one of my VERY few pet peeves for my DD.

It's ok to disagree, just my opinion.

i voted unsprung, mainly because the fact that i dont want the springs to blow up, i have a 6puck unsprung, and i dont like the chatter, i have to rev it to around 2k and slip out to not get the chatter

ive had both,

I have an ACT extreeme pressure plate and my first disk was a 4 puck unsprung, I loved it, To me it was very driveable because i was sooo used to it, Occasionally i would chirp of the line daily driving it but hardly ever, Ive never stalled my car as well with it. Now other people that havent driven my car did. haha

I got rid of that disk only because it was worn down, i tried to find another 4 puck unsprung or 6 puck unsprung and i needed the disk quick and greg didnt have those in stock but did have the 6 puck sprung so i gave it a go since ive had bad luck with springs popping out before as well. but i did alot of reasearch and the act sprung disks seem to hold up very well unlike others ive used, stock, spec, and more.

so far its holding the power im making great with no issues at all. The sprung is a bit calmer to drive only due to the less chatter, actually no chatter, haha, my 4 puck did chatter alot if i tried to go from a stop at less than 1500rpms. The 6 puck sprung doesnt chatter at all no matter how you go from a stop.

But now my pressure plate is worn down pretty good so sometime in the near future i will be getting a new act extreeme pp and probably a 4 puck unsprung disk to go with it.

In my opinion its still Unsprung FTW due to the fact i love the way the car feels like a race car with it. You hit the gas it immediately goes, you let off you immediatly slow down, There is no bouncyness that you get with the sprung disk, you just feel connected to your drivetrain with it and no hesitation at all.

Well said Ashton Great input!

The disk I have now is supposed to be pretty liveable until some heat is put in, then it grabs...hard. I won't really know for sure until it is driven and broken in.

I have heard that unsprung is extremely harsh, but the lightweight flywheel was pretty harsh when I had that in there. Shifting was hard on the passengers lol. Now I have unsprung and lightweight fly, I am just hoping the car doesn't chatter my fillings out haha.

Fixed ashton. sorry lol.

Do you think maybe this is why your avatar looks like it does?

I really can't wait to feel this beast. I know the flywheel is going to make a world of difference.

Just go unsprung and take it easy on your tranny. I am just plain done with adventurous springs trying to explore my bellhousing.

I respectfully disagree. Ive daily driven my 6 puck unsprung clutch with a Fidanza flywheel 8.5lbs, UR crank & Alt pulley and WP & PS eliminated (only running 1 belt Crank, Alt, A/C). Oh and I also have JWT S4 cams (we all know about their low bottom end power 1K-3K)

Absolutely love it. The chatter is liveable, sounds like rod knock when im at a red light sometimes But I love the clutch. Grabs great when I need it to. Have put about 30K miles on my clutch with numerous Auto-Xs , numerous FL - TX trips, COUNTLESS nitrous sprays.

From a stop I never spin if im just putt-puttin around town from a stop. Dont shift like a mad man when youre driving around town and you will be fine.
