Thread: Mixing Clutches

I'm thinking about increasing the amount of power my clutch can hold, and thinking about mixing some clutches/pressure plates.

Currently I have Exedy Stage 1 clutch and pressure plate which is good for 240 pounds of torque. The Exedy Stage 1 kit equals to the ACT Performance Disc and Heavy Duty PP.

What if I buy an ACT a sprung Six-Puck disc, with an HD pressure plate it should be good for 309 ft-lbs, would it work? This way I don't have to worry about sticking to stiff of a PP that will rip the clutch cables in time and will hurt the leg for DD/traffic driving.

i dont see why it wouldnt, so i dont see a difference, if u want more gripping power(if im not mistaken) get a better PP

and if u dont have a TrannySavingBracket(from Miko) get one the $hit works awsome, my HD ACT sprung 6puck feels like a stock set up

I'm thinking about the tranny bracket :-).

I'm currently at 220 ft-lbs, and not planning to go above 250. So 300 should be a safe pillow .

I'm just tired of throwing money at the car, so trying to save some money by not buying a whole new setup

Try giving Brian at clutch specialties a call. You can find him online. Just ask him how much a high capacity pp is and he can even calculate the torque capacity for you.

He has done all my clutches and he is awesome to work with. My clutches always feel like stock and hold power like crazy. My last one held 350wtq before slipping and was EXTREMELY cheap.

I suggest getting your clutch arm welded just for safe measure, and run a beefy pp. The strongest clutch I ever got from him used a DSM front cover and diaphram. It would clamp like crazy! I don't think you will need something that strong, but coupled with a 6 puck ceramic I would bet it would hold 400wtq.

714-525-4272. Tell him Jeremy sent you and see what kind of deals he can work out. The clutch I have now he says is good for 525tq at the fly and feels amazing! Not very stiff at all, and it only cost $375 shipped with everything! If you just need the pp then it should be quite a bit cheaper.

Vadim, I don't think you'll like the six puck for DD. It's kinda a pain lol I'd really suggest going with a disk.

My six-puck ceramic felt just like stock. No chatter at all. but others have had a bit of chatter. I would use the disk you have now and upgrade the pp.

Maybe Brian will be able to find a different PP cheaper. Or I might just stick to Exedy Stage 2 Pressure Plate. Like I said I'm tired of throwing money at the car, so just looking for the cheapest alternative before I damage the current disc by slipping it.

I'd just stop with the mods for a while and see how long the clutch lasts. Stop modding stuff, enjoy the car. Don't try to make any more power. Save for the correct clutch and pressure plate for your goals. In my mind, that's either the Stage 3 or 4 kit from Greg. That's a JWT pressure plate with either the 2000 SE clutch disc or a metal full faced disc. I wouldn't even begin to think about pucked clutches with your output. Pucked clutches are stupid cheap though, and that's why everyone uses them. =/
