Thread: B15 trans wont shift? **UPDATE**

I posted here cause more turbo people have dealt with b15 trans. I converted the b15 to cable and installed it with no problems. Drove for a couple weeks then got a horrible oil leak which looks like it was coming from the engine cover near the pullies. I cracked the bell housing when removing the motor and had to get it welded. I followed the write-up on the old-forum about how to take the bell housing off. Everything went well i thought. Before i bolted the trans back to the motor i checked to see if the gears moved by turn the shaft and it felt good. Installed everything and hooked the shifter linkage and stab bar back up and now the trans wont shift??????? So i installed the pass axle so i could turn it for the trans to move hoping something would fall into place but that didnt work??? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

If you have the clutch too tight it won't shift. I did that after my first swap.

What would the clutch being bolted to tight to the flywheel/motor have anything to do with the trans not shifting?? I dont understand? I know i didnt tighten it to much but maybe i did?? I hooked up the clutch cable and that feels fine. With the clutch in it still wont shift.

Sorry, meant to say clutch cable. When I did it, the pedal felt OK, but it wouldn't shift. I found a thread where it happened to Happynole aka Joe, so I gave it a try. When I loosened the cable it was fine. May not be your issue, but it's worth a shot.

lol ok i thought you meant something else. Actually the first time i tried to shift the cable wasnt hooked up. It did the same thing once it was hooked up sooo? Thanks for the input though, bit of info helps

does the car go into gear with the car off. If not you need to pull the tranny back off and open it to check the gear selector.

Thats what i was afraid of. What exactly is the gear selector and what could have gone wrong? I didnt touch any of the gears besides reverse which had to come out to pull the housing..

I would not be surprised if your Throw out bearing lost one of the little clips and it does not allow the gear to engage properly.
1. does the shifter shake when trying to go into gear ?
2. can you put the car in gear and then start the car and drive ?
3. do you hear chatter > ?

The car cant be started cause its not put back together all the way yet. With the car off shouldnt i be able to run through all the gears without engaging the clutch?

By gear selector do you mean the piece that the shifter linkage blots to on the outside of the trans? Could something have gone wrong with that internally??

yes if the car off and you should be able to shift thru all the gears easily w/o the clutch .

make sure to use the clutch alignment tool to adjust it so that the shaft goes in properly .
