Cortrim-

By gear selector do you mean the piece that the shifter linkage blots to on the outside of the trans? Could something have gone wrong with that internally??

yes you should be able to go through the gears with the car off. If you can't this does not sould like a clutch related issue. I am talking about the internal shifting mech that actually allows you to change gears. There are so many things that could be wrong that I don't want to speculate. It does sound like a internal issue. To be sure disconnect the shifter linkage and try to shift the car by hand. If it does not budge you will be traking the tranny apart again. I recommend getting a fsm for that year tranny and following the service procedure to the letter. Also check all the clearances on the end bearing.

I just pulled it apart and im not 100% sure exactly what is wrong and its kind of hard to explain. After i wiggled the gears around a little and manually shifted without using the linkage on the outside of the trans some of the gears started shifting. When you push the linkage in it hits one of 3 points and pushes eachone up or down depending what gear you are selecting. Which ever is in the middle seems to be the biggest problem.. Even if i shift by pulling the piece that wraps around the gear it is still hard?? Do you know exactly what happenes when teh synchros go bad?

Im not sure how i could have bent the forks though. It worked fine before i pulled the case off and all it did was sit in my garage??

1. does the shifter shake when trying to go into gear ? YES
2. can you put the car in gear and then start the car and drive ? YES, but it will try to take off like I'm launching in the 1/4 lol
3. do you hear chatter > ? YES

^I guess I'll be pulling my motor and tranny sooner than I planned. I think my throw out bearing is shot. What will it look like to tell that it is defected once I have the tranny pulled? Any certain brand I should look to buy over another? Cluth gripped good with no slipping problems.

^I can shift through the gears when the car is off, but once it is running it won't let me. The arm on the tranny moves back and forward fine, but it still will not go into gear. TOB?

P.S. - Anybody have the clips that hold the TOB? I need them for my other car.

I think i may have figured my trans problem out. I was having troubles getting 3/4th gear to shift. Can someone tell me when you remove the check plug on 3/4 gears is there supposed to be a spring, plug and a ball or just a spring and plug????? When i back out the bolt that holds tension on the spring the gears shift with little effort. As soon as i tighten it back up it becomes a problem again. Im thinking cause the plug isnt round like the ball would be it gets caught in the groves on the shifter fork. Any ideas????

So there is a check ball in there as well, it took a little bit to get it out. I put washers on the bolt which decreased the tension on the shifter fork and it shifts much better now. ANy idea why this is happening? Im tempted to put the trans back on and try it out but am a little hesitant...

I would check the order of all the check balls and make sure they are all in the right place. I did a full-build write-up. Search for it in the how-to section.
