High boost plugs
NGK 5238 for 3.49 a piece at Autozone.

R5671a-9.

I just looked at these and they are racing plugs. They don't have a projected tip like the normal BKR series. They also stock a heat range 8.

Has anyone tried these yet? They have the same reach, gasket etc. Looks like they will work great. After looking at racing plugs for the VE, the price was rediculous. What do you guys think? Could this be a cheap solution?

Ah, but they don't have a resistor.

NGK says that a resistor is not required with most new ignition systems.... but you could have interference. If you do, swap them out for resistor plugs. I have a few friends with standalones running these plugs without issues.

These have a removable tip, but the thread size is only 12mm. You can get some steel thread inserts and loctite them on, this works well. These are heat range 9, or 10.

Why not use 7's? Do you HONESTLY need 8's or 9's???

Yes. Actually I just need a plug with a tip that is not extended as far. I am not going to break a ceramic off into my engine again.

The race plugs were designed for heat-cold cycling far better than the standard plug, and thus will handle extremes in heat without problems like that....hopefully.

Why don't you fix the real problem rather than "fix" what got broke?

And what would that be?

11.5:1 afr. 8.5:1 compression. 20* outside. 15psi boost. And you are suggesting I detonated? I have a knock light. No hits.

E-mail NGK tech support with your setup details.
They got back to me within 48 hours.

Race plugs are the **** on boosted engines. Non-resistor plugs do wonders for top end power. Usually you will need a stronger coil or coil over setup for higher RPM opperation. The electrode-less plugs are great. you can not change the gap on them so you have to change the plug to change the gap.

nice find though!

i have seen spark plugs fail before where the porcelin does break off with no signs of detonation. maybe once or twice now, pretty rare, but i've seen it.
