First Time Inside My W11
So I'm casually driving along, I see a friend who is a fan of my car so I drop it in second and mash the throttle, tires spin and I miss third gear. No big deal, except all of the sudden my car sounds like an STI with full exhaust. I guessed it was a rocker arm, and indeed it was. Actually I broke two of them on the same cylinder. I was stoked that it was something easy, and then I get to looking at my cams, and they have some nasty pits/cuts in them .

Here are a couple of pics:

Now, I hate missing chances to upgrade, so here is what I am thinking:

Minimally:
S4 Cams
Rocker Arms and Shims (I have 8 rocker arms and 8 of each shim type off an old engine)

Extravagantly:
S4 Cams
Brian Crower Titanium Springs and Retainers
New Intake and Exhaust Valves
New Valve Guides
AEBS Headstuds
New Headgasket (which is the best right now?)
Minor Porting
3 Angle Valve Job

My question is, what are the chances that my valves are boned on the cylinder that this happened to?

If anyone has any insight or suggestions on what I should do...

Thanks all,

-Mitchell

The cams will are fine dont worry about it.

When you break both on the same cylinder it is not a good thing. That could mean that you bent a valve. They generally brake randomly so lets hope that both on the same cyliner was a random thing.

Make sure you get a magnet and fish out all the rocker arm pcs and make sure to find all the valve keepers. You will be looking for 4 of them 2 grooved ones and 2 flat ones.

Keepers also like to make it down into the oil pan. You may have to drop it if your don't find all the pieces.

If you messed up the valves and are going to make a few little changes I got something for you.

If you are intrested I have a

W11 head $200 with new JWT springs, new Titanium retaners $350 and new S4 cams $550. Everything is installed in the head so no xtra work for you.

Total for everything is $1100

I built this W11 SR20DET motor for a guy about 3 years. It has been sitting on an engine stand since. He now wants to put the motor in a P11 G20S and I told him to put the RR head on from the P11 on the SR20DET bottom end, so we are going that route to keep things nice, easy and simple.

Do a compression test, I did the same thing (pretty much) racing a fire bird (that I spanked by the way). I was in 4th gear going to 5th and then it started sounding like an STI. I did a compression test and I had 0 compression in the 2nd cylinder. It wasn't my rockers, but its probably the piston/rings. Taking the head off today, I'll let you guys know.

Man I even have an STi Muffler and it still doesn't sound like an STi

How high did you guys rev to break everything? I've been slowly lowering my revlimiter, from 7700 to 7100 might lower it more...

First off if you have any T25 to GT2871R turbo you dont need to shift past 7300 RPMs.

The best time my friend got with his GT28RS was 11.8 @ 122 MPH @ 17 PSI shiffting at 7300 RPMs. Anything after that the car ran slower as the HP starts to fall off quickly.

Vadim shifting your car at 8000 RPMs will not have any problems. If you read closely he over reved the car, he probably saw about 9000 + RPMs full throttle on a miss shift.

The other guy 92BoostedSER just ran his car lean and melted a side of his piston taking out the ring if he has a DET if he has a DE it could also be he burnt an exhaust valve.

Yea I'm certain it was atleast 9000rpm, I saw the tach go atleast that far out of the corner of my eye.

I'm going to get everything to mechanical tdc and then give Andreas another call.

yeah exactly, even on a full throttle mis shift the rpms still have that chance to hit above the rev limiter. For the most part the rev limiter will catch it and bounce off it. The b13 rev limiters seem to kick in better than the b14 ones do. this is based off driving my car vs my buddies ve b14. The b14 rev limiter seems softer and it doesnt like to catch right away if a misshift occurs and when he was having tranny problems he mis shifted alot. But lucky he has a ve head and springs and retainers. So all was good

As for that other guy trust me been there done that. Melted the side of the piston. Ive yet to burn a valve, more than likely he was overboosting a stock t25 turbo. Again been there done that too many times. haha

Ill be shifting my car at 8k with a t3t04 60 trim, That is what i have my rev limiter at and the harsh limiter keeps it there even under full throttle mis shifts although im sure it actually hits a little higher but hey bounced off it spinning the tires through 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear just constant off the rev limiter spinning to 125mph on good falkens and didnt have issues with the valvetrain.

Oh I completely agree with you on not needing to go past 7300 rpm, actually from what I noticed above 6800 is useless. At around 7k rpm the car just starts sounding weird and starts rattling... aka not a good feeling so I don't even bother shifting at 7k anymore.

I'm just worried because I have free reved past 7500 rpm, and like I said the car just didn't sound like it liked it and was worried that it might brake something.

But that was on the stock Avenir W11 Cam (Same as 99 one). While on the Dyno the car didn't hit 7100 and was a bit friendlier sounding haha.
