Thread: Need advice on aftermarket 86.5mm 9.5:1 pistons.

Oil starvation or too much timing probably killed it, not running 12:1 A/F ratios.

I have 8.5:1 pistons and I don't notice any decrease in bottom end power since I had 9.3:1.

i picked up some wisecos 9:1 from GFD for extremely well price look into them

Obviously parts of it were destroyed due to detonation. Other failures are still a mystery. There were many things going on that certainly made things worse. Want to get into it, take it to that thread.

That's a blazing price. I'm still reeling at the idea of having to spend money for a bore + hone at a shop I'm not 100% confident in. The time it'd take to get that done, combined with all the minor costs (new head gasket, might as well upgrade to head studs, might as well go to forged rods, might as well get the mains machined for GTi-R bearings, etc. etc).

All to have an engine that could develop a tick in the head for no good reason.


I'm going to find a decent junk yard low port, slap a VE oil pump on it and have faith.

^Replace the hydro lifters as well and do a good block flush from the top heater hose and get the gunk out.

Thanks for the advice man. I'll flush out the gunk. I'll see if there's room in the budget for the lifters. I'm sure I can make room...
