ive always started at the #4 side, the #4 side of the cam is the part that is always sticking up higher while the front caps are almost all the way seated and the front of the cam is almost all the way seated.
Here is how i do it. I install the cam to where the least tension will be put on it which is almost in the tdc position of 10 and 12 but slightly off. I install the caps and tighten the bolts by finger until the bolt heads are touching the caps. Ill start at the #4 and do 1 turn at a time on each bolt and head towards the front of the motor, if it seems like the cap is getting bound then i stop and usually give that cap a 1 turn loosen and it has always unbound itself then start get it back with the others. i do that until the caps are completely seated then i follow the fsm bolt tightening sequence which works from the middle outwards to the edges of the motor.
Ive never broken a cam, warped a cam, broken a cam cap bolt or had one that had problems turning. Matter fact i hardly ever get caps that bind but occasionally they do if the cam isnt perfectly lined up with the cam bores but again a simple loosening of the bolt just slightly will always unbind the cap and seat the cam properly. Again never had a problem, EVER
