Thread: GT28R Wastegate Problem (HELP!)

Well to start this off, I had a gti-r wastegate and I'm guessing the bracket it for it. It wasn't working right, boosting at 20-22lbs which is not right. So I decided to order one off a forum member. Eventually got it and it doesn't work, in that time waiting I ordered a brand new setup which is suppose to be for my setup exactly. I am running this clocked down with a gti-r manifold. Well I put that one on and had to clock the turbo more down for it to be able to work at all. It faced down to far at the crossmember and the WG hit the block. The other setup is massively running into the block. I have one other way to adjust that bracket and if that doesn't work then I am clueless to what to do.

My question is anyone on here running there turbo the same as I am and what WG setup are you using?

Can see the gap here, I'm gonna try to adjust this the other way and hope it works, but I don't think it will.

Well I think I might have figured something out...But I'll have to drill a hole in the new wastegate, and if I do that I can't return it.... LMK what you guys think.

I was gonna drill a hole in the end of the WG rod, before the other hole right at where it goes flat. Think that would work out alright?

You do know that the W/G flap needs to be preloaded right? If you have a 7psi actuator then it probobly has 5-6 lbs of preload. Thats not how you check it though. You shouldnt have to worry about the flap opening all the way as it shouldnt. If the flap opens all the way, it could potentially go over center and not close again.

oh ok haha I was thinking it needed a preload but wasn't sure like how far I need to stretch it.

If you look at the third photo on the second post do you think if I drill a hole at the start of the flat part that it will be ok as the preload?

halfway in between the start of the flat part of the rod and the other hole may be ok. Just check and make sure it doesnt bind.

yeah thats what I was thinking, and maybe take that bracket and drill like 2 holes up above the ones that hold the WG there to give it a little leverage cuz it sits a little high.

Thanks snickers, did what you said and it worked perfect! Decided against the holes in the bracket so we'll see how it works tomorrow hopefully.
