VE+T Build questions?
Hey everyone

Well the ordering of parts finally begins on the VE+T build. My current list of items that will be going into this is:

CP Pistons - SR20VE+T - 9:01 compression
Eagle H Beam Rods
ACL Bearings
Standard SR20DET 8 counter weight crank and girdle
Garrett GT3071R Turbo
Tial 38mm External Gate
Lovefab Sidewinder equal length manifold
Link G4 Storm ECU
SR20VE Head with mild porting on intake side by Reg Cook
Standard SR16VE cams
HKS Cam Gears
Top feed fuel rail
800cc top feed injectors
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbro 500hp fuel pump

My questions to people are:

1) Should I be upgrading the valve stem seals and valve guides to something aftermarket like the ones mazworx sells?
2) Is it really worth going to the oversized valves?
3) will I need to upgrade the factory Valve springs? (Keep in mind our VE motors have a higher spring rate than the VE's the States get)

The power goal is a little over 400WHP fingers crossed. Is there anything that maybe you guys have experienced or would like to add? Maybe items I am using you could suggest something else? This is my first VE build up, so any information would be fantastic. The platform this will go into is my JN15 VZR four door Sedan (FWD).

Thanks for any help you lot can help with

Standard SR16VE cams(I wouldn't use these get some sr20ve cams or 20V cams

no need use what you have if it is broke
2) Is it really worth going to the oversized valves? No not really with the hp you are shooting for.
3) will I need to upgrade the factory Valve springs? (Keep in mind our VE motors have a higher spring rate than the VE's the States get)I would but I am over careful when it comes to my motors

Why would you not use the SR16VE cams? I have read a few people have had great sucess with these as long as you dial them a little. The CP pistons will have plenty of extra scope for the higher lift.....

I'm waiting to hear back from Kelford if they are developing any cams more suitable for a turbo VE. Something like the VET cams but with higher lift on both small and high lobes.

The sr16 cams will be decent on low boost with your manifold. But the powerband is going to be way peaky for that turbo. Who knows. Try it out and post up charts!

if he gets the turbo with a bigger turbine housing though, say .86 then it should hold power wont it?

The sr16 cams are good for a build that is around 9500rpm or so. I think he can make good power, but you will have to rev the poop out of it.

so what would your ideal turbo ve cam be?

For a small turbo and a 8K rpm band the VET cam works really well, otherwise the standard sr20VE cam would prob work best as long as reversion isn't present.

No I dont mean whats the best cam using the factory ones........ I mean has anyone sat down and worked out what the best cam to get made would be? I mean we have two major cam companies here in NZ who are doing lost of R&D into the NA VE world.... there is a whole section of VE owners who went with a hairdryer that are missing out.....

So I throw this out to everyone here.... what sort of profiles do you think would be best for a turbo??
