holset
considering just going with a holset for my 400 hp goals. maybe even more. wondered if anybody on here had gone down this route. i can find em in the local junk dealers bins brand new from the dealer, where theres a chip in the aluminum housing, or a dent.....you know, visual defects. they just throw em away brand new.

yeah, thats what i was thinking. umm....looking at the hx35, hy35, and 351 holsets, ive see a few, i think its the 351's, that have the variable vane wastegates......shouls i avoid these, or is there a way to bypass that? is there a certain style/year or are all hx35s pretty much equal? i just dont know. like i said, they have BINS full of turbos, i just want to go there a little educated.

hx35's came off of the newer (2006+) diesels afaik. You will more than likely want to avoid variable vane stuff because although its awesome, you probably dont have a way to control it. Standard stuff is way easier to use.

ok....so what are the serial numbers im looking for (i know that sounds dumb, but does it SAY hx35 on it?) i couldnt find any holsets at the scrappers.....lots of garrets that had been nice, but theve all impaced, so not rebuildable. then i want to a trunk scrapyard, they sell turbos. 3 or 4 holsets about the right size, but they said hc2 on them, and had a large t4 looking flange. not sure what that is.

I just chose to buy an 8blade true hx40 w/ a t4 housing for my 240... I have been reading up on these turbos and borg warner for a while now since JP's praised them over here so much. They are very good turbos and are slept on.
