They are overpriced and don't show any real gains over regular Garretts. There are some results you can find online of as much as 50whp, but that is with upgraded wheels (larger ones). I prefer to stick with the original when possible, and HTA doesn't do anything for the exhaust side unfortunately.

Luckily, I may be able to get garrett to do a core exchange on my CHRA and get a new one for a big discount. Don't know how much of a discount but I will let you guys know as soon as they get back to me.

I was thinking about putting a different exhaust wheel on there and having it balanced at HTA, but they may charge more for that than getting a new core unit from Garrett.

I would love to upgrade, but I can't stand the lag from the GT35r. Forget transient response, there is none. Spool is over 5000rpm unless in 3rd or 4th gear. I don't like them that much because up here they spool really slow, so slow that they fall out of boost on the upshift. I would like to try one, but it would have to be a TS of course

SC6262 is where it's at, with the billet wheel.

All the craze lately... I found a brand new one for $718 shipped. Unfortunately I can't reveal my source. I may end up running one by the end of the summer. Rated for 650whp, spool like a 35r with .63 A/R and Evo kiddies are making 900hp on them.

EDIT: Typo. Meant 35r, not 30r.

The idea of a bigger turbo is nice and very tempting. But I want a turbo lively enough for some track use besides straight line. I love big power, but I have actually thought about downgrading turbos! I figured the TS 3076r would give me exactly what I want with power, spool, and response. a BB 60-1 or similar is very very tempting though. I am really after overall response. I would like to get something to feel like my old disco potato, but not run out of steam on the VE so soon. I won't ever get the feel of that turbo, but I want to get as close as possible with this next setup. I think it would be sick to have a 500whp car with full power on tap for over 3000rpm in the powerband. That would be a very potent setup.

yeah when i was looking it was about $2.2k aud. so around $15000-1600u.s. ish. Cause of the Aussies week dollar it it is worth it. I wanted to run one, but at the time of purchase it was double the turbo i ended up going.

the hta doesn't need to do anything on the ex side, the garret rear wheels are a pretty good thing, its garrets compressors that could be better. Running a hta comp wheel will see gains

if you are going to go new ex wheel might as well put on a hta comp wheel too

i agree. In fact i dont even like the gt3076 that much, for your twin scroll set up gt3071r in a garret unit or the turbo i linked would be better imo

Ya I don't think it would be worth the cost of going with the HTA stuff when there are no real gains in power. The 3071 would be my next choice, but the compressor on that will be way out of efficiency at 500whp. I want to make a nice solid 500whp for at least 2000rpm, and average 500whp for 3000rpm or so.

I am really stressing out though because I need to hear back to see how much this is going to cost me with the exchange.

Machined wheel vs cast wheel. good read.
TurboByGarrett.com - Race Updates

I am guessing that a new CHRA from Garrett will cost around $500-600 bucks. This is good news, but I do have that GT4088r laying around hahaha.

Jeremy,

You're looking at $450 for the special arrangement when you're ready.
Regular price on the outright new CHRA is $991.

Thanks!

This is what I got back from my vendor for this turbo CHRA replacement. But I have one more guy who says he can get the unit EVEN CHEAPER! I am going to hold and see what he says, then I will let you guys know. This is rediculously cheap for a BB turbo! VERY EXCITED!
