Okay here's the latest. I was working on a collector last night, but I figured I would fix some things that were bugging me about the twin scroll housing.
You can't see it in any of the pics, but the bolts that hold the housing onto the CHRA extend into the exhaust stream on one of the scrolls. It is only a .78AR, so having a bunch of bolts sticking into the exhaust stream is an issue. The amount of backpressure on one of the scrolls was double what the other scroll was. Not the best design, and left me quite upset with how this housing was built. Not the best quality. So I went to the local bolt supply place to pick up shorter bolts that wouldn't extend into the exhaust stream. Finding bolts was cheap and easy, but after trying to fit the new allen-head cap bolts I found them impossible to use. Errrrg!
So I got the bolts out that came with the housing, and went to town. I cut each of them down by about 6mm, and massaged them into place. Shined the flashlight down the scroll... perfection. No more bolts extending into my exhaust stream! This should help flow quite a bit.
I then had to grind down the oil return attachment, because it hit the bolts... Sigh. Okay so I got the trans filled with 2 qts of Shockproof, and I need one more. I mounted the radiator fans on the front of the radiator to clear room for the new setup. Looks great. I then checked for TB screws, both there. Whew.
So we got the collector about 75% done, and it looks really good. We just need to weld on the flange, and pipe the wastegates. The mockup should be done today, as we have been waiting on these pipes to show up for 2 weeks now. The pipes should get here this morning if the plumbing place didn't drop the ball.
The car is making progress, slowly but surely. There have just been a hell of a lot of hiccups.
