Thread: Teflon tape?

That's what I use, I said loctite but I meant permatex. If you can find it, that's the best.

Yeah Jen, I was just reiterating, as I use RTV on just about everything. It rocks!

I usually use the orange high temp stuff for everything. I havent had a problem with it as far as fuel and oil. Just be sure to not put too much on.

yeah dont put too much sealant on there just enought to basicly coat the upper threads of the fittings. Dont apply to the bottom thread/first threads that go into the female end but start 3-4 threads up that way you dont get any in where you shouldnt.

ive used teflon on multiple fittings both fuel and oil and have never had a problem, again i dont start wrapping at the bottom threads, i start 3-4 threads up and do a couple loops around until the top. Never had problem with it disintegrating. and if it does slightly it wont go anywhere but outwards if a leak were to occur. But its more used to tighten up any slack in the fittings as well. But yeah sometimes those smaller npt fitting under higher pressure dont seal themselves cuz ones such as fuel fittings and oil line fittings ive had to teflon them all to get them to seal completely. They have always leaked on me.

i put a dab of whatever on the threads then run my finger around it. that way i just get it into the valley of the threads and dont leave much if any goobers of it once the fitting is tight. looks nice and professional that way. thats one of my pet peeves..........RTV/thread sealent squeezing out all over the place.

not much a fan on teflon tape, i dont like the idea of something solid possibly getting into the fuel/oil/water/what ever system.

if you do it right it wont, teflon if exposed to solid gas will basicly disolve into nothing. but again if you avoid putting it on the first several threads there is no way for it to get in there as pressure pushes outwards as does the force of tightening the fitting down.

Teflon works as well i just have had good luck with rtv, so i keep using that instead. I agree with your statement though, teflon or rtv has to be applied correctly or you could have problems.

I put in on the last threads like you are talking about but i think cause it had already leaked there was excess gas on the fittings. I wiped everything off but it still just dissolved almost.
