Since most engine are harder to find. Go with a RWD DET. Drop it in, call it a day, and win hard.

Well Let me make it clear:

The man has a sr20 fwd motor that he plans to use, so he is prepared to do the mods. He is aware of the challenge but he is up to it.

He is also gonna use the KA gear box so he wants to know if the ka tranny can only work with the rwd sr20 bell housing and not the fwd sr20 bell housing, or if an adapter plate can be used.

Peace

you have to machine off the complete starter mount off of the FWD block to make room for the RWD starter.

you have to use the RWD sr20 bellhousing

i do not know of any KA-SR adapter plates for the transmission because the bellhousings swap right over

the fwd bellhousing will not work at all because it is a transverse setup

you will need the RWD oil pan setup or will have to modify the oil pickup to fit correctly to keep from starving the motor of oil when accelerating and decel.

you will need to cut a hole in the firewall to fit the distributor

you will need to make a custom intake plenum or cut and weld the T/B onto the other side of the plenum.

you will need to make a new thermostat housing and bypass as the FWD one will not clear the firewall ( atleast I dont think it will)

you will need a RWD clutch setup, or a FWD clutch setup with a large spline input shaft

you will need RWD motor mounts for an SR

you will need a RWD turbo manifold setup or custom one, FWD will not fit.

thats just to start.

Thanks Snickers.

Will pass on the info to him cause he is pretty much 'advanced' with the project.

He is gonna get a adapter plate made.

people say it cant be done, and i found out how to get it done a few years ago.

I was actually going to basically do this in my mazda truck but i got ahold of a free RWD bare block and head...

To make some things easier, see about getting the VET/20V crank angle sensor and then u could run the DET RWD ECU and coil packs. then you dont have to cut the firewall out.

This is stupid. just buy a RWD engine, weather SR or VG or boost the KA jeez. Wat waste of time and money.

I think he wants to try this route because of importing costs are higher there.

Romes, why you beating down on the man like that? Cant you see it's a matter of the resources that the man has to work with?

That place you told me about has no rwd sr. He said he saw the motor for 70k and 75k for tranny at BMull. He cant afford.

I got a link for him at Mr. Engine who has the Serena rwd sr for 95K - motor, ecu, wireloom, gearbox but I dont think he can afford that either. he has already started working on the FWD Sr to make it work and was already aware of some of the things Snickers pointed out. Sent him the list so he can be on the right track anyways.

He is also doing most of the work so...

Peace
