Sr20 + Boost in Nissan Truck
Here is the situation:

My friend has a 94 Nissan pick up and wants to put in a sr20 and boost it.

He bought a sr20 low port motor only to find that the high port intake manifold cannot be bolted on. Is there any way to make this work?

Even then the intake pipe will turn to the firewall so he is considering using a rwd manifold (high port) on the low port motor in order to have the intake pipe turn to radiator. Can the rwd intake manifold bolt up to the high port sr20?

What exhaust manifold should he use?

Finally, can the KA24 gearbox work with the FWD sr20?

umm why did you not use a s13 or s14 motor. its a easy swap. the high port and low port intake manifolds are not compatible. also a rwd tranny will not bolt up to a fwd block. My suggestions is to boost the ka motor.

You will want to get a RWD block for his setup. The FWD blocks do not bolt up 100% to the RWD trans, and the starter will not fit in the same spot.

The high port and low port intake manifolds are not interchangeable.

You will also want a RWD S13/14 setup because the distributor will not clear the firewall as on the S13/14 motors it has the crank sensor off the front timing cover part of the motor.

The KA trans can be made to work if you get a RWD SR20 bellhousing.

Parts for KA24 are not easily available in Jamaica as do SR20 parts.

He was considering changing the KA24 bell housing as we know it wouldnt bolt up to the SR20.

So in essence, it's better he sells the FWD SR20 and try to locate a RWD SR? Mmmm?

RWD SR's are very rare here and bit more pricey, but a man got's to do what he has to do...

I personally could make a FWD SR fit in a RWD application, but its not worth it because of what all is involved. your best bet is to get a RWD setup complete or piece one together, but getting a complete swap is the easiest way to go.

I would actually recommend just turboing the stock KA motor. If anything just get a Dual cam KA motor and go from there. loads of power.

So a FWD sr20 bell housing wont work? He is considering using an adapter plate.

How will the truck feel, especially on boost, with the gear ratio of the KA tranny?

These engines are even harer to find and more expensive than a SR in Jamaica. Or are they, check around and see. I will too.

The KA24DE is a good option Raggy, just get the dual cam (DE), the parts not that hard to get, I think you just dont now were to get them seeing we are SR guys and I mean talk about torque. Pure wheel spin. A lota fun though. I know a guy that has one, he is making 330 +whp on 10psi of boost on 87 octane fuel and the truck/van can handle up 20 + psi. Crazy. Once he stood still burning out and ran through 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th redlining all gears with tires constanly burning from 1st straight to 4th.
